Not functioning the way you like, you mean.

Anyway Lowlander already pointed to the link where this bug is tracked in the MM bug tracker. Nothing else to be done about it until the devs fix the issue.

That is for an old version of MM (version 3 and less), it can't be disabled at this time.

OK I did the same thing with a Jump Drive with a new artist.
No <auto playlist> triggers.

1. Playing the songs doesn't do anything to my Library.

2. Changing a <Title> doesn't add it to the library.

3. <auto Arrange> to <artist - title> format added the two songs (out of 12) I had changed to the library (Location, Artist and <Unknown Artwork> edit, but only those two files in all instances,s added to my library, but only the two songs I had changed.

4, I tried the Tools/Scripts/Case Checker which changed the album title for all songs, but didn't add them to my library.

5. <analyze Volume> did not add it to the library. Nor did <auto Tag from Web>. Nor did <Level track Volume>.

6. I added one of my <Auto Playlist> tags to the file and played it. It did not add it to the library either.

So it looks like <auto Arrange> adds it to the library - which I use a lot.

Anyway, enough experimentation I'll find a work-around somewhere.

MediaMonkey shouldn't add files when just editing them. However D&D on Collection/Playlists nodes and adding to Playlists would add them as that is a method designed for adding files.

Let's see if I can explain this:
I am moving a lot of music files from my other computer and want to get rid of my duplicate iTunes data for my iPods. I copied all the unedited files onto my work drive E: and want to edit a bit at a time, adding to the library only when I am happy that the tag information is correct. It is way, I can the gradually add edited music to my library and check to see that data is OK.

I cleared the database on this computer and started from scratch. I designated my clean library to be D:\Music\Library which contains a bunch of folders to logically separate my music.

My clean Library <Add/Rescan> is set to D:\Music\Library
I copied a bunch of files from my other computer to a Jump drive F:
I then used MM to edit the files on F: - renaming the files and adding trigger for the one of my Auto Playlists.
I ejected the Jump Drive.

I now have dead links to all those files in my Library in;
<Location> F:>
<Artist & Album Artist>
<files to Edit/Unknown Artwork> (I didn't add artwork)
<Auto Playlist>, and probably in other areas.

I guess what am looking for is for MM to respect my Library location settings and to not automatically add folders to my library when I am operating outside the bounds of my designated Library folders. That way I can make changes gradually, cut and paste those files into my library and then check to ensure I haven't forgotten anything or made any mistakes.

It looks like MM automatically adds any folder you touch into the library. If I wanted to add all my music in one shot, I would have done so with the initial scan.

So, can I stop MM from auto adding any folder I touch or is this working as designed?

MediaMonkey only adds what you tell it to. Be aware that as Playlists are in the DB that any files being added to Playlists will be added to the Library. You can remove drives from the Location node, this shouldn't remove the files from the drive (note in any case when files are set to be removed you're asked to remove them from the PC or only from Library).

I do my editing, cleanup and renaming of files using folders outside my library folders, so I only move files to my library after I am done editing.
Then I use the <playlists> and <files to edit> feature to figure out what I screwed up.
I end up chasing problems only to find the references are in my edit folders.
So I want my library restricted to the <D:\Music\Library> set of folders.

MM keeps adding my EDIT folders to the library, confusing my life somewhat.
I tried:
1. editing the <Add/Rescan> in the file menu, but still end up with errors outside my official library,
2. <remove> the nodes outside my library in MediaTree/Music/Location - which deleted a bunch of files I was working on. (grateful for the recycle bin).
It would be very helpful for all edit references and playlists to be within my library only.

So is there a good way to either: stop MM from adding folders to my library; or, removing the other folders from my library (library reference only)?
