PS. I meant readable as it's own field instead of being part of the comment field.

I've found that after putting something in one of these three fields, then loading the mp3 in WMP for whatever reason, the information is transfered to the Comment field, so... :\
I can see them in the comment field when I look at it in the tag editor "The Godfather"

I was always under the impression that there is an extensible way of creating a custom id3 tag...

I don't know the details of the specific tag fields for the custom 1-3, (I think they have been posted here, but I don't know where) but yes they are saved to the tag.

Other players/music managers are also problematic when it comes to tags and read/writing custom/foreign tags.

Hopefully we will see some improvements in this area with MM 3.x versions.

Perhaps MM 3.0 will make more tag types/fields available.
Are these tagged into the MP3? Or are they just stored in the database?

Unfortunately no other application supports custom MM tags that I know of... the big problem is finding COMMON tags... TIT1 (group) seems to very common, yet unsupported in MediaMonkey.
Hmmm. Actually from some experimentation I think MM is hiding the 'custom' tags in the id3v2 comments field...

Tags give me a freakin' headache. I wish there was better interoperability.

I'm desperate for more ID tag support. Especially TIT1. There are a few applications out there like Rapid Evolution, MixedInKey, MixMeister, etc. that can detect harmonic key and write it out to tags. I know Rapid Evolution can MixedInKey can write them out to TIT1. I'm not sure what tag MixMeister writes key information out. Anyways, I'd like to be able to do dynamic playlists and sort track lists and such usign these tags.

Anyways, I'm desperate! Any ideas? :( :(

I have been asking for a while for support of more ID3 frames (including TIT1) and was told that this is on the wishlist for MM version 3.0.

So now I'm waiting... sorry, that's all I know.

bump. Does anyone understand how to extend or customize MM to access and display the TIT1 IP3 field?

Double post: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=39551

Unfortunately I don't know the answer for sure, but I don't think that it's possible in the current MediaMonkey. An advanced tab in the track properties window with all these additional tags sounds like a good idea to me. This advanced properties tab should list all additional fields supported by the specific file format. That would increase the utility of MediaMonkey in the managing part of the music which is the main use in my opinion.

access to common metadata

by diablod » Wed Mar 15, 2006 3:33 am

Hi. I'm evaluating new media players/organizers. I'm a DJ and tagging/metadata is all important to organize. I will need access to the following WMA datadata in an editor as I use them constantly in my work.
WM/BeatsPerMinute
WM/ContentGroupDescription
Both of these fields are accessable and editable in WMP 10. But I've outgrown it. My 1000+ files I use for DJing have this data (the other 9000 files I have don't but I still need a good organizer). It is important for me to continue that access to those fields.

Can MediaMoney access these? I haven't any luck in the UI or manipulating the [CustomFields] of the .ini file so far using version 2.5.2.950.

In MP3 files, I need access to the equivalent. MediaMonkey does appear to access the TBPM field. But it doesn't seem to access the TIT1 (content group description as defined at http://www.id3.org/).

Ideas? Workarounds? Improvements?

BTW, other than Foobar2000, I've yet to see a media manager that will allow the customer to create columns (or db fields) and have them map to metadata in the music files. Sure would be great to see a commercial app like Media Money consider this since you can't please everyone. Therefore, don't. Let the customer customize it.
