I mean, I can convert it to MP3 and still have these custom tags. But I get now that this capability isn't standard. In my mind, how I thought a music library organizing program would work when importing tracks is, it would import all the metadata and create categories on the fly. I understand now that it's putting metadata into preset categories (and MM has many of them, just not mine) and throwing away anything else. Sounds like I'll have to do some research on this problem.

Like I've said, it's simply that all the important genre information is tied up in the custom metadata. This is a newly ripped collection of more than 5000 CDs, and that genre info is important for organization purposes, since I no longer can look at CDs grouped by genre on shelves. I was a little irritated by the non-response, but pleasantly surprised when rovingcowboy responded, even if I don't like the answers I'm getting now. I came into the forum expecting a support forum like certain others where the devs personally respond and bug-fix etc., that's my mistake. My impression was that MM is for more advanced users.

I'm a lot of things, but script writer is not one of them. I'll look into lateral solutions to this problem, thanks everyone for your responses.

But the only way that I also can see you getting all the data in the songs mm property sheet is as said by old timer you write a new vbs script that adds a tab to the property sheet panel for the data you want shown.
This will involve you telling monkey how to find the data and where to list it in the new tab. This will be better in user script form because as we all agree not many will use it. But you're hard work with the script will be used by others like you that want to see it.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand the question. In properties for the track I put in the picture, if I go to the Details tab it shows "(FLAC 1.3.0)" under Encoder (which is a value in my metadata), and has values for start/stop time, play counter and skip counter (standard stuff). If I go to Classification there are no values there besides that it's part of a playlist called "Accessible Tracks". Just to be clear, I didn't add the metadata after the fact, the files were generated with all of it.

But it's there, and it'd be great if it was shown... I'm starting to get the feeling I'm asking for something that just isn't coded into MediaMonkey currently.

Basically I want to see my Style and other metadata within MM. Here's an example of the metadata inside a typical FLAC track in my library: [url]http://i.imgur.com/90dD67V.jpg[/url]. I had to open 2 tracks in the properties window just cause I can't show it all at once, but every track has that much info inside. There's even the UPC of the CD! I want to see it, I want to search it, I want it as a column option in the library view. The Genre category of a ton of my library is "Pop/Rock" or "Rock," that doesn't say much. The specifics are tied up in the Style metadata. I'm not exactly seeing how another skin would give me any more options, and I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to editing an ini. Is there a thread I should see for this? Ignore the bit in my first post about custom fields, that was just a little story there. I'm not looking to add data to tracks, I want to see the metadata already in them.

What I find most confusing about this is dBpoweramp is a known ripping tool for people who care about such things, and will automatically put all this metadata into the tracks it rips, and yet somehow I'm the first person to want to see this metadata within a music player? I have trouble believing that.

In the meantime I at least found the workaround for one of my issues. If I go to properties for the files I want to delete artwork of, go to artwork, delete all the artwork, press OK, then open it again and add the new artwork I will have successfully deleted the old folder.jpg and put a new one in.

Having the option to delete the old folder.jpg when adding new artwork and MediaMonkey reading ALL metadata including custom fields should be a standard thing, should it not? Should I take this thread to the wishlist forum?

Hi guys. First off, I have a 2TB collection of flac files ripped with DBPoweramp, and most of them contain extra metadata such as "Style" using Allmusic's info, AccurateRip info, "Source" indicating where the flac file is from etc. I'd love to have the option to display them in Mediamonkey, especially "Style," because that's where the more specific genre information is for each album. I misunderstood what the custom fields were (thinking I could specify fields I wanted MM to pay attention to) and ended up creating a "Style" custom 1 field which is now the reason I'm going to have to re-upload my 2TB library back to the cloud, as it added a stupid "Custom 1: Style" field to the metadata of every track in my library (since removed, but the files are all changed nevertheless). Obviously that was the wrong way to go about this. So what's the right way?

Also- My file metadata has Tracks as 1/16, 2/16 etc, and Discs as 1/2 etc, but the second part never shows up in Mediamonkey. I want to see all that glorious metadata the way DBPoweramp encoded it.

Also- is there a way to set it so accidentally clicking the album art in the art viewer (when no details are present) doesn't bring up details and force me to right click -> uncheck "show file details"? This is annoying and happens way too often when I mean to double click the artwork. When details are shown double clicking brings up the track metadata so there's a sequence of wrongness there that I've gone down too many times.

Last- I'm slowly adding better album artwork to my flac files, as many of my rips were before I figured out the best ways to find high quality artwork. I'd love to use Mediamonkey to do this, but my current flac files have album artwork embedded and a folder.jpg file. Even if I set Mediamonkey to create a folder.jpg file along with embedding new artwork, it doesn't delete the old folder.jpg, it creates a folder_2.jpg, leaving me to go to the folder myself to clean out the old folder.jpg and rename Mediamonkey's folder_2.jpg. So basically, there's too much manual input needed from me right now. Is there a setting or something I'm missing here, or is this just a limitation of Mediamonkey?

Edit: also, when retagging a lot of files at once, do any of the options under general->performance put more CPU cores into the retagging effort? I imagine that's more constrained by HDD speed than anything, but doesn't hurt to ask.
