As far as i know, it is not possible in MM to create playlist directly on the ipod, so you have to create the playlists in MM
and then synchronize them to your ipod
as an example, here are my settings in MM
in the first step i choose the playlists, which i have created mostly manually
but you can do this also with the auto-playlist option, if you own the gold-version
to do this go to the ipod-configuration window where you can see the library and the playlists you have created
on top of the window you can see two radio-buttons "Synchronize entire library" and "Synchronize only the following"
in my case i choose "Synchronize only the following" because i only synchronize playlists
in the upper right corner there is a check-box "Advanced". if you check it an "Edit" button appears under the library-window
this is usefull if you want to select a lot of playlists a one time (just select them, push the "Edit" button and in the opening window push "OK".
the selected playlists should have the checkboxes marked now.
in the second step under the "Synchronization options" the only things i have checked
are the "Delete tracks that aren't on the Auto-Synchronization List from the device" and the "Confirm deletion (recommended)" checkboxes
i don't let MM auto-synchronize, because i just want to have a bit more control of what happens when i connect the ipod
under the "Auto-Conversion" Tab i don't let MM do an conversion, because all my files are ready for synchronizing (i do this before importing to MM)
at last, under the "Device configuration" Tab i have checked the
"Force iTunes-style folders (\iPod_Control\Music\F00\, etc.)",
"Trim path and/or filename length to 31" and
"Update database based on all Track changes (takes longer)".
with theese settings all my synchronize actions are working perfectly.
album-arts are stored inside the mp3's and are shown on my colour-display ipod
after setting up this steps you only have to connect your ipod and after a while (until MM recognized it)
you have to push the "syncronize to portable/audio device" in the Menu-Bar
maybe this helps
