I see we have similar ideas for backup our MP3 collection.
This is not gonna be an easy script to write on my search to find a solution for this i stopped at this software
http://www.softinterface.com/Compare-Da ... Access.HTM
My idea was all the info of your collection is stored in the microsoft access file in the folder My documents/music/mediamonkey/mediamonkey
If i compare an old libary with the current and a software tool find the differances between them. I could copy them to an empty libary.
So in the end i have a libary which have only the differances and could start to copy the files to a new folder to be burned on DVD.
I didnot manage or put enough time to get it working properly but mabye its for you a path worth checking out.
The trick that works already in MM is the following ;
- Select your collection and browse by artist or album and view all
- Sort the files by the fieldname added
- Select all the tracks that are added since your last backup
- Copy all to a new empty playlist
- Now you can see how many files there are and also how big they are all together fit for a dvd
- Then you open an new empty playlist and move the files until you have a full dvd ready to burn
- The next step if you want to save some part of the original folder structure. You sort on filepath and add extra info in an unused tag of an MP3 by hand
(I don't no if mediamonkey has this automation function but with Tagscanner
http://www.download.com/TagScanner/3000 ... 54245.html
i still use for tagging my general tags of my MP3 i can insert to all my MP3, the folder name and above folder to a field name i like. The software need only one fix. Everything works great swaping parts of the file name to a desired field. Only the automation function removes the inserted cover art. I still use this a lot for the basic tasks before i add a mp3 to Mediamonkey. In MM i tag the fields genre and other fields
- The last fase you have a playlist that has the right amount of files to fill
a dvd and you copy them to a new folder on your HD
- To recover your files. you copy the files back to the hd and sort them on the field where you entered the parts of the folder structure and start moving them back to the new folders
I hope this gives you some new ideas to find a beter sollution to the above methode.
A lot of greetings and keep up the goodwork
