It's not that old!

I find it strange to see activity still in this old post.

However, have you nevered consider using SMF. As it is a free forum, with report feature, and more.

I like phpBB, too ...

It's not unlikely that phpBB will see a security issue at some point. It's open source and a widely used platform. So if there is a bug its lucrative to exploit.

phpBB it is then! :)

Jiri and I take care of the forum.

From my perspective, phpbb works reasonably well, and any change would require an investment in time to install a new forum, convert dbs, and learn the new management tools. If there was a good reason to make this investment, I'd certainly consider it, but at this point I don't see it.

Jiri and Rusty are admins as well as the developers of MediaMonkey. The other moderators are volunteers.

Actually I'm just a normal MediaMonkey user.

ipb1.2 ? when did he changed he said it was all php?

strange that red squrriel would do that and not say so?

sorry he changed it with out my knowing it.

by Nordoelum » Mon May 08, 2006 3:56 am

I honestly didn't understand your post :(

And that site didn't look that good. And it is using IPB 1.2.

Of course you can make a custum phpBB. I haven't sais otherwise. It is just that IPB is contained with ALOT more neat features.

But as you have stated before, this forum is supposed to be minimalistic(did I write that right?). That I fully respect. Why wouldn't I? I just say that the subSilver template for phpBB sucks :D Not that you need to change it. I am using this forum anyway right..

Nice designes:

http://thevistaforums.com/
http://forums.montroseriver.com/

To make an example :P

you want to see a nice php site

got here and look at this site the whole place is php including the bb.

http://www.iceteks.com

then tell me you can't make a custom phpbb? i won't listen to you about it if you do because iceteks was all made custom with the php code.

steegy. yepper i know lockergnome is offline he had a poll up for several days asking if he should archive the old ipb board or move it to the new phpbb site or just start with a new phpbb. most of us told him to just start a new site since the ipb was messing up too bad. so i guess he is making the new lockergnome help forum site now?

roving cowboy / keith hall.

posting before i log in again.

Lowlander wrote:The fact that the forum is in basic text makes it much more readable. The problem with fancy rich text (phpBB has some formating) is that too many people try to format the text for no reason. I like to keep it simple, that allows focusing on the content instead of the makeup.

Anyway many formatting options are available, luckily few use it.

Forum package is a personal thing. As phpBB works here and MediaMonkey is not in the forum business it should just stay with phpBB.
It might has something with that I am personaly inlove with IPB :P But for now I will close this topic, since you have answeared my topic. (I would guess you are the admin right?).

@Steegy: It looks like they are about to use the subSilver skin for phpBB3 also. And that skin just suck comared to IPB, SMF, MyBB, IceBB, UseBB. Anyways, thanks for the phpBB dev headup :)
