That's what I normally do, but I forgot to exclude my music files from the data transfer to the new device.

2) Perform a Wi-Fi sync with the new device (using whatever playlists I want synced)

This works correctly for me, but I imagine that if prior to step 2, some media tracks had been copied to the new device, that the WiFi Sync process might not correctly match 100% of the tracks to files in the library (especially if they'd been auto-converted). That's why when setting up a new device I prefer to do a 'clean' sync.

That's worse because m3u files are flat playlists and I make extensive use of the Smart Playlist feature to manage my media.

I finally had time to come back to this. Just installed this version. The installer indicates that this is part of the v4 cycle (I didn't capture the display, but after the '2024.0.0.3082" it had 4.something in parenthesis).

Hm. I have a Lifetime License and never got any kind of notice of this. Anyway, about to leave for a trip. I've downloaded the new version but install will have to wait until the end of the week.

I want to say "irrelevant" because I have issues every time I've changed phones from the very start of my using MediaMonkey going back to about 207 or 2018. Once I get it going with my library on the new device it settles down. My first Android with MMA was a Z2 Play. I then went to an s10 and a succession of SD cards and had to go through this with every replacement card and a couple warranty phone replacements. Then switched to an S20+, then an S22U, to the OP-12, and now switching to an S24U, for at least a dozen reloads over the years.

To answer the question though, current version of MMW installed is 5.0.5.2695 on Win11 Home.

It was still missing tracks on the new phone. This time there were errors, a number of tracks "failed to download" with no reason given or log for why findable. So I spot-checked a few of the track names listed in the error and MMW claims they weren't accessible despite being there. So I verified their existence on the old phone and set the sync settings on that device to upload missing items and synced, and got a couple dozen duplicates that I had to manually clean up.

Reset the old device sync settings to remove the upload option and re-sync to finish the clean up.

Sync the new one and get a couple fatal errors in MMW5! "Application throw an exception Access violation at address 013C4A26 in module 'MediaMonkeyEngine.exe'. Read of address: 0000002A Would you like to restart MediaMonkey in Safe Mode?"

I use the play "restart" open and I get nuthin' in the program window. I cannot see the error for some time because it's behind other program windows, database is locked. I have to exit the program, then use Task Manager to kill the MediaMonkey.exe process, then restart it.

NOW, after two and a half days and many errors and issues, I appear to finally have my library on the new phone.

And after several hours, with MMW set to sync all music and playlists, I have less than half my music and no playlists on the new phone.

I'm in the process of moving to a new phone, OnePlus 12 with OS15 to Galaxy s24u with OS14 in case it matters.

the last time I did this, MMA was on version 1.x, and now it's 2.0.2.1223 and thought maybe the device transfer has gotten better this time around.... nope.

I used the Samsung SmartSwitch to move my apps and data over, and it moved my music library files over (~20k music files) but not my playlists nor the MMA settings. I go into the settings on the old and new phone to manually enter the media server settings for wifi sync, and the new phone shows up in MMW, I set up my sync profile and sync. Takes about an hour of "matching library to files" in the cleanup phase. No playlists. Sync again, and again takes about an hour of "matching library to files" in the cleanup phase but this time I have my playlists but they're incomplete, and the library is missing a few thousand tracks.

I give up and decide to clean-slate it. I set the sync profile to not sync anything at all and to delete unselected media. Says it's deleting almost 20k items, but leaves a few thousand tracks behind. And again and again and again before i give up and use the device's My Files to just nuke the content of the directory, then sync one more time so it knows it's empty.

I am now syncing to put everything back. This will take several hours and is basically an overnight process for me.

Some version of the above [i]always happens[/i] when I change devices, including when swapping SD cards when I had an s10 (and I presume would happen if I had a Galaxy A series phone).
