MediaMonkey for non-admin users results in C:\My Music

Actually a lot of programs create folders in the My Documents folder. It's common practice and I find it annoying myself, but it's not something only MediaMonkey does (I also have an iTunes folder in the My Music folder).

I would prefer to have these things stored in the Program Files folder myself (I like to keep things together so I don't have to go hunting), but the Application Data would be a good folder as well.

Yeah, really? Says who? Does MS Word have to have its templates in a separate folder clogging your "My Docs" location? Does - more analogous maybe - Winamp, which also makes use of playlists, show a similar behavior? Of course not (both counts).

If this is a file created automatically for the intrinsic needs of the program, it should be in the program folder, don't you think.

MM 2.5.5.980 (=MM 2.5.5 RC-1) is the Release Candidate for version 2.5.5.
From what I've read, MM3.0 is probably coming at the end of the year (earliest?).

This sounds very good - but I just read about MediaMonkey 2.5.5.980 RC-1. Is this a release candidate for version 3? Do you already have any plans when version 3 approximately is going to be released?

It should work fine in MM 3.0.

did you find a little bit time to test this problem?

I still want to use MediaMonkey and I will buy the Lifetime license, if this problem is fixed. In the long run it's not okay for me that MediaMonkey writes to C:\My Music\MediaMonkey in the case of a user account without admin rights.

I can live with storing the files in <DaS>\<user>\My Documents\My Music\MediaMonkey even though I prefer the <DaS>\<user>\Application Data\MediaMonkey path for the config files as long as it's possible to define any path for the database file further on.

You can use windows TWEAKUI app to change the location of the "My Music" folder, which then will change the location of 'my music\mediamonkey' and its files (ini and database files).

The MediaMonkey.m3u is a playlist that helps MM remember the "Now Playing" list after restart. It must be in that spesific folder.

Ofcourse that doesnt means that if you try to export some songs in a m3u file you will have to save the exported m3u in this folder. You can export it anywhere you like

It doesnt look like it. I know, its very annoying, hopefully it can be moved it later versions.

The MediaMonkey.ini file can only be stored in My Music/MediaMonkey or in Program Files/MediaMonkey. The MediaMonkey.mdb database can be stored anywhere, see FAQ for details. The MediaMonkey.m3u can only be stored in My Music/MediaMonkey.

Using the Application Data folder instead of My Music has been requested. Alternatively you could change the My Music folder location in Windows itself.

btw: is it possible to implement the option to store the file MediaMonkey.ini in an alternative subfolder like <Documents and Settings>\<user>\Application Data\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey.ini or <Documents and Settings>\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey.ini?

I prefer having all software dependent configuration files in these folders unlike all the files created by myself (with that software) which I prefer to store in folder <DaS>\<user>\My Documents.

With this feature plus the possibility to pretend individual path declarations in MediaMonkey.ini everyone would be able to realise his individual folder structure.

According to the documentation, FAQ and forum postings the usual folder for the file mediamonkey.mdb should be <Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents\My Music\MediaMonkey. This works proper for users with admin access on my computer (Windows XP Pro). For users who don't have admin access MediaMonkey always creates the folder C:\My Music\MediaMonkey.

How can I get MediaMonkey to use the intended folder for users without admin rights?
