i'm in the same boat you are now.

i can't get it to work again on my winMe and not many people here have winMe, so we're a drift waiting for some one to find us. :(

not sure but i'll try again with another clean install. :(

no rusty that is the version of 2.5.5 980 not the last one.

i am not sure if the last 998 version works or not since i don't have that on the winMe.

:o

Failed MM burns with 2.5.5.998

Roving Cowboy, PGD, msimms,

I'm curious about the cowboy's finding that MM 2.4 works but MM 2.5.5.998 doesn't. Can you:

1) Tell me what CD burner you each have (for those of you who haven't already)

2) Let me know whether MM 3 (most recent version is alpha4) resolves the issue. It's at:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15384

3) Let me know whether MM 2.4 resolves the issue. It's at:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8811

Thx for your help.

3. ASPI: check out WikiPedia's ASPI page. Just remember that you sometimes (depending on the program/Windows version) need an ASPI layer/driver to be able to use (rip/burn) cd's. At the bottom of the wiki page, there are links to download the 2 most well known ASPI drivers (Adaptec and Nero). Again, I don't know is ASPI is needed for MediaMonkey.
Maybe this FAQ page could be of help too, and here's another ASPI page.

5. You could try cd-burning with MediaMonkey 3.0 Alpha 4 (remember, this is an Alpha version -- could contain severe bugs -- be warned!). If this works (or not), then maybe the reason why it doesn't work on MM2 could be found more easily.

- check if the ASPI is installed and working correctly (at least if that's necessary for MM -- I don't know). Repair/(re)install it if necessary.
- make a debug log as described in the sticky thread in the Bug Reports forum. Make sure you get the MediaMonkey debug log, and the debug logs applicable to the cd-writing capability (should be hpCDE.log I think).
- try MM3 alpha and see if cd-writing works there for you

Please report anything you try that could be helpful for the devs (and us) to troubleshoot.
1: i can burn w/ wmp
2: will try later
3: aspi = ???
4: will do
5: ???

please can someone sort this?

i've gone through the ini files for the two versions the 980 on the win Me and the 998 on this winxp both ini files are the same. in each computer this xp burns the cdroms?

i have found in the registry of the winMe computer at
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\Software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\
explorer\Autoplayhandlers\evethandlers\handleCdb8urningonarrival\

the ab string of MediaMonkeyBurnHandler

its value is blank should there be something in that value?

i also found the hotkey for playcdaudioonarrival and it's ab strings value is blank too?

but the same location as above only not the event handler but just the "handler" its key for burn with monkey has an ab string that has a value of "burn cd" no drive inducated there either?

i've been through the whole registry those are the only areas that even look like they should be controling the cdrom drive connection with media monkey and nothing anywhere else in the registry on the winMe has any mention of a cd. except all the cda open with lists.

so how about it dev's whats missing if anything?

:-?

so the new roxio drivers did not work on this error?

Well at least you got the error fixed they were made to fix.
to bad we both don't know what that error was. :o

just what is it that monkey don't like your having trouble with it
on winMe but the 2.4 version of monkey works on my winMe.
so something has changed in mm for sure but what and where i have not any idea, i said all i know and can remember about the different burnning errors.
sorry none of them worked on you error. :(

only thing to do is send in a debug report log pgd
you find the info on that in the bug report forum in the sticky thread.

msimms i am not sure if nero is your answer or not.? hope it works.

have you sent in a debug log report.?

Well Cra.......p!!! i updated to 2.5.5 980 on the winMe
so it now is not working either. should have stayed with 2.4.

i am now getting the same thing msimms is getting. it does not give me the first error you got pgd. but it does not find my memorex 52 24 52 cdrom drive either? :o

i'm going to poke around in the ini's and registery to see if i can find what is now not allowing it to find the cdrom drive.

I was the other "guest" with same buring problem "no writable device" On HP running ME. Thanks for mention of Nero. I do have it on PC. Will try uninstalling. I've also replaced the original burner (just because I had a newer one), but got the same error before and after.
