Ummm, any news on this request from the developers of MM? See my related post here:

I've posted a reference to this on the "Corrupted FLAC files after tag edit" thread (see http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=91261).

In my opinion the least the developers of MM can do is to provide us with a tool to support the very laborious and time-consuming process of re-ripping all of our corrupted FLAC files.

I've spent a huge amount of time to tag all the songs in my collection. Many of the songs required long searches on the internet to find the correct year of release and other tag info. I just cannot imagine doing that again for the over 2000 corrupted songs in my collection.

Developers of MM, please provide us with a tool to support the long and unpleasant process of re-ripping our corrupted files without having to manually enter all the tag information again. That would show a large amount of good will from you.

Yeah -- but since I use EAC to rip, and it doesn't know anything about any other database than FreeDB, that would be rather tough to accomplish, I'd think. Which was why I was thinking of a pure MM (or separate app) solution for the problem.

Wouldn't it be nice if the guy who wrote EAC had written it to be able to accept plugins the way MM did, so it's behavior, lookups, etc. could be added to? Oh well.

EAC has an option to use cdplayer.ini. A script could be written to create the cdplayer.ini structure from MM's database. I didn't follow up on that because it wouldn't work for compilation CDs. I use an individual track's release year, not the album release year, and cdplayer.ini doesn't make that distinction. (Also one of the main reason I didn't want to use online tools)

Wolfgang's method really wasn't that bad. I have 2 drives and a processor that is dual core. It took a couple months to get through about 800 CDs.

Or perhaps you know of a tool that would do that already. The problem is, if it were done outside of MM, then reassociating the files with their records in the database would be yet another step.

Thoughts?
Others have expressed a wish for using MM's database as the source for ripping, I don't know the status of this wish but the FLAC problem shows an unanticipated need for such a tool.

I retained all my tags when going from MP3 to FLAC (re-ripping my CD collection) by using a slightly modified version of Woulfgang's instructions in this post,
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 3659#43659

If you work through the process with a test album, you'll see that is quite efficient, although the manual steps can lead to errors.

I put a considerable amount of time and effort into getting the tags the way I wanted them (with the mp3 files) and having access to MM's library for ripping would have been a big help.

Hey all you MM devs...

I mentioned this in the flac corruption thread, but it wasn't answered there. Will MM 4 provide the abillity to somehow sync tags from the database to files? That is, left side of a window contains tags, sorted as in any over view, right side contains a file tree, for example, and you can match up which tags you want to apply to which files, then say "go", and tags in the database will be added to the files they've been matched up with?

This is the only way I'll be able to restore my tags if I have to re-rip all my CDs due to the flac corruption problem (and losing data from them), so it would be lovely if you had such a capability, or provided a separate tool for the job.

Or perhaps you know of a tool that would do that already. The problem is, if it were done outside of MM, then reassociating the files with their records in the database would be yet another step.

Thoughts?
