yes if you have a high speed usb 2 device plugged in to a usb 1 port it will cause strange behavior when the device is used because of slow connections.

Do you mean dsp plugins? There's only the default one that came with MM, DeFX, and I don't have it turned on.

I don't have wmp associated with any music, but I do with video. I'm using the native MM player within MM.

Could there be a problem with the USB connection to the music slowing down the tagging process too much?

my guess is that you're using a dsf plugin of some sort.

and it or the wmp. is causing a buffer over run error.

i've had bad luck with any dsf plugin i've used with media monkey. all crashing and tossing errors by messing up with trying to use the same block of memory that some other program is trying to use at the same time.

since i seen wm in the debug log you posted i'm gussing you still have the wmp set to be associtated with some music, and that might be the program butting heads with media monkey?

in any case i don't use the dsf plugins anymore.

You could try creating a debug log and sending it to the developers, this might help them figure out what's going wrong.

Still having this problem. Any ideas? Or just a 'feature' of MM?

I have been going through my collection adding a 'custom' tag for favourite tracks.

I've found that, since upgrading to 2.5.5, if I add a value to the custom tag, and then immediately (before MM has a chance to actually write the tag) try playing another track, or sometimes even just try to move to another track, MM will crash irretrievably, with the error message "Access violation at address XXXXXX in module XXXXXX.dll. Read of address XXXXXXX".

The problem is pretty consistent, doesn't happen every time but more often than not. The module varies, sometimes quartz.dll, sometimes amstream.dll.

MM won't respond after this, needs to be shut down with the task manager. I'm running XP Pro with SP2 on an ASUS M2400N laptop with centrino 1.4/40GB/512MB. The music is on a USB-linked external HD.

It seems to me that this problem is new with 2.5.5, as I've not come across it before, despite having done this same tagging procedure many times before.
