its the same baisc thing you do for hard drives. the device's are just out of tower hard drives,
it is how i do it for cdroms also. its so basic i find it hard that people don't know it already?

i don't know why the zen bundled player is needed with the zen vision it is not with the mico all i do is make playlists with mediamonkey, but monkey i think does just use the all link to see all the songs in the list with out doing the each folder thing?

some times it pays not to need that extra bell or whistle on the portable, for video. after all its in my pocket and the head phones are on and i'm doing something different with my eye's that the video is wasted on the inside of my pocket? :)

You said that very well for a non-Vision owner. One small addition... In order to view the music in one list without the folders, you will have to put it on the Zen without the folders. I do this with mine because I like to use Trixmoto's Custom Report script on my Zen.

all you should have to do is go to the my computer node.
click on the plus sign beside the zen player icon.
then all the folders on the player will be found and shown below the zen's icon.
then just click the plus sign beside the one you keep your songs in. or click the playlist node if you had monkey make playlists. then the songs list in the view area.

then all you should have to do is select those songs and then click play, that is just like any folder on your hard drives, only the device is the hard drive.

Nyn (or anyone else) I was wondering if you could tell me how to arrange my tracks so that they all come in a list, rather than as folders. I also cant seem to get the folders displayed in the main window ( where tracks from the library are) but instead they only appear in the left hand window where the tree nodes are.
Cheers!

RC:

Now I know we have had this conversation in another thread but the newer Zens are not able to perform tasks in MM as your Micro is able to.

what is going on here.?

this whole thread seems wrong to me since i can play my zen micro through mediamonkey,

you just can't make playlists on the zen player with the zen bundled software, and play it through monkey.
you have to use monkeys playlists when you sync to the zen.

that is the way i use it with the zen micro.
so are you saying creative has changed to something different with the newer players?

:-?

I can't help you wit the playback option, but I fixed my Zen so that the folders are not a problem anymore, I just have all my music sync to the \Music\ folder with no other folder options. This setup makes it easier to browse my player from within MM and using Windows Explorer.

im dying for someone to find a way to play the zen through mediamonkey as its so frustrating having something that could be brilliant if it was only tinkered a little. Also, the way files are viewed in mediamonkey as folders (in the case of the zen) is annoying too. There seem to be no mediaplayers that allow the zen to playback tho (apart from the creative organiser which looks horrible). WMP 11 has the same issue, and i think foobar2000 might be the same!

Wonderful!

Thank you!!!!!! I've misplaced my charger so was having to charge through my computer and was miffed when I couldn't play it as I generally listen to my tunes through stereo. I tried the steps you posted, and.........THEY WORK!!! Excellent. Thank you!!!

I'm fairly new to the Zen myself, so I could be wrong. However, I don't think the Zen allows you to play the music from the device, THROUGH THE PC, while it is docked. You CAN play music from the player through headphones while it is plugged into the PC.

So, for example, if you want to charge the player (by connecting to a pc) and listen to it at the same time, you have to close anything that could be trying to access it (like MM, Creative Software, WMP, etc). OR, you could do this (for a windows machine): Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager, go to Portable Devices, right-click and say disable. This allows you to continue charging and play from your player (through headphones). You then need to right-click and enable if you want to sync, or unplug and plugin again.

Is it possible to use the Winamp plugin which allows playback within MM3??

I am not trying to promote Winamp, but like I said before, you can play your ZVM through winamp unlike MM.

by nynaevelan » Wed Dec 12, 2007 12:54 pm

That would be a nice feature, although not a major priority for me. I would however would like to be able to sync from the ZVM to MM like Ipod owners are able to.

This is the main flaw I have found with MM. With my ZVM I cannot browse by tag info (genre, album, artist), but I can do this with my wife's ipod within MM. You also cannot play the ZVM through MM. Winamp can do both of these. I browse my ZVM by tag info, and it plays the ZVM within Winamp without a problem. If MM could fix this, I would use MM exclusively.
