No, you don't have to worry about your MP3s, this only means that if you make a new installation of MM 2.4 and don't have Gold license (or don't do the other step described above), after 30 days you won't be able to encode into mp3 format.

Sorry to bring this back up again,

but what exactly does it mean when you
limit free distribution of encoding functionality to 30-days
Is this sorta like DRM protection or something or does it mean that you can only encode into MP3 for 30 days or is it something completly different?

OGG encoding is unrestricted since it is unencumbered by patents and associated licensing restrictions.

Or, you can encode OGG or maybe FLAC or one of the other thingies. I use MP3, but there should be no restriction on OGG encoding, right?

Thanks for info. This is fair enough.

I am registred user so I'm not concerned :D and I am glad to hear that freeware users can easily tweak MM to keep the functionnality working.

To clarify: As MM has grown in popularity, it's become necessary to comply with MP3 licensing requirements which limit free distribution of encoding functionality to 30-days.

Existing users who upgrade to the new version don't have to worry. MM won't try to replace any existing version of the LAME encoder.

New users who want encoding beyond the 30 day period have 2 options:
1. Purchase a MediaMonkey Gold license.
2. If you don't want to buy Gold license for some reason (is there any good reason not to buy Gold?? :wink: ), then there is another way: Download lame_enc.dll from some on-line source and replace the included version of lame (in the MM folder) with the new one.

I am a bit worried about this following fix:

"- Removed unlimited MP3 encoding for patent compliance in new installs"

Will this mean that MediaMonkey won't be able to encode more than a given number of tracks ? :-?

Could somebody enlight me on this ? Thanks.
