So far, so good, Lowlander - You've been patient and helpful.

So, I've pointed MM at the NAS and cleaned up and ctl+L'ed everything.

Then I setup the Palm Pre in the device options and it read and sync'ed. Seemed all good, but it put 600+ songs in the root, and 2 songs in their proper directories inside /Music/. So I checked the options, deleted the files and did it again. Same thing.

Options - Portable/Audio Devices only has Palm Pre checked.
Clicking Configure - Device Configuration, Sync tracks to: \Music\<Artist>\<Album>\<Title>

What is going wrong? I guess I can live with the songs in teh root if they play, but I'd really rather see them properly directoried.

I don't know about the Pre, but when syncing there's an option to delete files not on the sync list which should take care of them.

Thanks! Should I delete the files that are on the Pre first?

Don't know about the Pre itself or if it is even supported.

But, yes, you scan the files on the NAS into MediaMonkey. After that you would need to clean the tags up so you don't have some files with Cure, some with The Cure and some with Cure, The as MediaMonkey doesn't fix this for you when syncing. Once files are tagged properly you can create playlists of files you want synced to the Pre. After that setup the Device Profile of the Pre to sync those playlists and use Auto-Sync to sync the files.

Advice for a Noob

To date, I have kept my Music on my Palm Pre by simply copying it over a USB connection from a directory on my PC. I also have a NAS server that has the larger music library. I sync it with the PC in order to select only the music I want on my Pre.

Now, I'd like to use MediaMonkey, because I think it will simplify all this and eliminate the extra copy (and file transfer times) on the PC. Some questions for an experienced user:

1) Is this the way MM works?
2) Should I point MM at my NAS, allow MM to cleanup my NAS, and then have MM sync the Music to my Pre?
3) If so, can I select just some of the 'music' for transfer?
3) Will it setup my Pre properly (Album art) (No duplications - ie, artist-'Cure' and artist = 'The Cure', and artist='Cure, The' ?
4) What about the music already on my Pre? Should I delete that first?

Thanks!
