Yes, that is what I see. Thanks for raising the bug report.

I can reproduce it in 1638 only with last played, doesn't seem to affect "Added" or "Timestamp" fields.

As far as I remember if you sort on a date related field where every date is unique in an Auto-Playlist it will group the files, however this treatment isn't done when just displaying files and sorting on a date related field (in the end values are unique and grouping is normally done on the same values). Auto-Playlists ignore the unique time part of the date whereas sorting doesn't.
I'm not sure if this addressed to me or mcow.

I see that the time components of the Last played rows will differ. But Grouping doesn't just collect together identical values. It seems a bit more complex than that. Browse to a selection of composite albums, select View Show Art With Details, and sort it by Artists. What I see is that it groups similar artists, ie. the artists "Art vs. Science" is grouped with "Artisan Guns", provided they are on the same album.

Likewise Date Last played groups albums when sorted by Last Played even though the timestamp diifers by track length.

If you are saying that it is intended behaviour to group the album if I sort the current view, but not if I am in that sorted view and then re-populate it with new data (ie. navigate to a different albumartist), well that has all the hallmarks of a bug AFAICS. And it is a very annoying bug if you primarily browse, as I do, using the Show Art With Details view, sorted by Last Played, within the AlbumArtist index of a collection.

If there is a Mantis entry for this issue could you append this thread to it please? Otherwise could one be created?

Yes, but if:
* the sort (date last played in my case) has sequenced the tracks such that the album tracks are grouped together
* and the collection has Enabled Grouping (Artwork Views ) selected
* and the View mode is Show Art with Details

I should see the album art collecting all its contiguous tracks together into a group.

What I see is the (same) album thumbnail repeated for each single track, ie. no grouping

The proof that it is a bug is that if I toggle the date sequence, by clicking on same Date last Played column heading, the album is grouped as expected.

Then select another albumartist, and the problem re-occurs.

Effectively it is two clicks to select each new artist.

I sort by the usual Album Artist, Album, Track # sorting. And then I display Art, so all I see is album covers for albums with at least one track that fits the filter.

This is good enough to browse records that haven't been played recently.
Sounds interesting. I will try it, thanks.

Grouping is different than sorting, tho.

I have an autoplaylist that filters on Last Played, rather than sort by it (filters on Last Played and a few other minor criteria).

This is an old bug, but it has never gone away for me.

If I set View to Show Art With Details, enter the Music|AlbumArtist index, click on the the Last Played column to sort the display, and then select different artist, the album is no longer grouped. Ie. the album art is repeated for each track. ... I only play whole albums, and this happens even for artists with just a single album

My collection has Enabled Grouping (Artwork Views ) selected.

If I re-click the Last Played column, to toggle the display between ascending & descending, the album is grouped correctly. If I navigate to another artist, the problem returns.

If I use the Genre index the problem doesn't occur, even if I drill into a genre to see the various artists, the album tracks are still grouped into albums as expected.
