Thanks, but as I wrote above, that's what I tried.

The problem that then happens is that, even though I've unchecked all devices but my MP3 player, and even though my MP3 player is connected and is the only possible sync device, MM will still not automatically select the MP3 player for auto-syncing. There's only one possible auto-sync device, and MM leaves it unselected. Pressing the autosync button then results in the "no active device has been detected" dialog box, even though there is a detected device. It's just not automatically selected, even though it's the only possible one. I have to manually select it before hitting the autosync button.

Not a big deal, but it's annoying.

Edit: one thing you could do is: if there is only one possible autosync device, automatically pre-select it for the user. Then, this would not depend upon having "persistent defaults" implemented. I don't understand why this wasn't done, because, if you have more than one device, the first one is always selected. It's only if you have only one device where nothing is pre-selected.

just an fyi, though it may not apply in this case: if a device is appearing even though you don't want to synch to it, you can disable it via the Portable Devices configuration (just uncheck the device).

Re. the idea of semi-persistent defaults (semi persistent because they should only persist of the device is connected), I'll add it to the wishlist.

btw, another possible approach to this is to set a connect order for the devices on the device tab.

I've noticed this behavior as well when multiple devices are present.

Current autosync device changes or is not selected

MM 2.5.2.948 RC-2

(I'm not sure if this really qualifies as a bug, or if this is really an enhancement request, so please move this message as necessary.)

I have a Vision:M MP3 player, and a USB disk, and both are plugged into the USB ports at the same time.

When I start MM, MM wants to make the USB disk the default autosync device, and I really want the MP3 player to be the default. OK, no problem, I make the MP3 player the current device, but this setting is not remembered if I quit and restart MM.

OK, so I go into the "Portable/Audio Devices" setting under "Tools/Options", and unselect all device plugins, except the one for my MP3 player, in the hope that MM will make the MP3 player the default device if it's the only possibility (and it is connected). However, MM still refuses to make the MP3 player the default autosync device (now, there is no default device). If I hit the autosync button, I get the "no active device has been detected" dialog box, even though the MP3 player is connected. I have to manually select the MP3 player as the autosync device, even though it's the only possibility. Even if the last autosync device setting cannot be remembered, MM should be smart enough to automatically select something.

(Side note: it makes no difference if I start MM without having first connected the MP3 player, or if the MP3 player is already connected when I start MM -- no default autosync device exists, and I have to manually select the only one.)
