I'll give this plugin a try, although to be honest I don't use iTunes at all so there is no database to sync.

In any case, it's a pretty good idea, syncing iTunes as an MM device, at least until an update permanently fixes this.

Do you connect the iPod to iTunes at any time between two MM syncs? Even if it iTunes doesn't sync, I found it would wipe my playcount changes.

Have you tried disabling auto-start in iTunes, closing it, syncing with MM, then listening to songs and afterwards syncing without starting iTunes at all?
