Changes to the configuration of the ASIO plugin don't hold

I use the ASIO plugin to output to my ESI Julia@ card. The problem is that in MM4 any changes to the ASIO plugin configuration aren't retained the next time I launch Monkey. I searched the forum and there seems to be two others that have the same problem. Any way to get the configuration to hold or ...

Re: Best way to rip CD's?

I use EAC to rip my CDs, but back when I used Monkey I thought that you could load the CD in your drive, then click on the drive under the My Computer node. The tracks aren't in the Librarry yet, but you can edit all the tag properties in the main window. Once you have everything the way that you li...

Re: Audio levelling questions

Just remember, leveling is supposed to make them all sound relatively the same loudness. It's not a great idea to use it to boost volume, per your clipping comment. It is also important to remember that the dB scale for sound is a logarithmic scale. For every 3dB incease you get approximately a doub...

Re: Ripping Entire CD Library

It rips to wave and then will convert to FLAC. It is my general understanding that almost all rippig programs use this two step approach. The conversion to FLAC with a compression setting of 5 or 6 takes 10 seconds or less on a reasonable fast machine. It's the read and error checking that take the ...

Re: For best possible sound

Frankly, I've had great luck using the ASIO plugin going direct to an ESI Julia@ sound card. I use moneky in that set up to play on my home stero (relatively high end). I've tried both the DAC on the Julia@ and also passing it digitally directly to the DAC in my reciever (julia@ has both RCA and SPD...

Re: Ripping Entire CD Library

I'm not sure why you would rip to wave. You can rip to some other lossless format without ANY loss in quality and use about 60% of the space. My personal bias is towards FLAC. I ripped my 800+ CD collection to FLAC and it takes up about 275 GB. Remember, there is absolutely no loss in quality by usi...

Re: Ripping to FLAC

FLAC is a Lossless format, so compression levels in FLAC has nothing to do with quality, only file size. The only trade-off between the compression levels is the time to encode the file. There is no additioanl decoding time with higher compression levels. Having said that, you do start to get dimini...

Re: track volume

Trimoto has agreat script to clear just one field on selected tracks called surprisingly "Clear Field". I've used for this specific purpose and it works great. See:

Re: What are target volume levels relative to?

My last post didn't finish because something screwed up when I copied that in. Here is the rest of what I was going to say. To your question, replay gain calculates the energy level of a file of -20 dBFS pink noise which would produce sound at 83 dB upon playback uisng the replay gain algorithm and ...

Re: What are target volume levels relative to?

I have been slowly working on a wiki page on the topic of volume leveling and general information on converting analog to digital. While it is not yet ready for prime time, here is an excerpt relating to the issue or dB measures generally as well as how they relate to digital audio. As you correctly...

Re: MM too quiet

Check the volume slide in the far lower left corner and make sure that isn't set too low. It doesn't jump out at you as a volume control and some miss it. If that doesn't work, you could try another output plugin to see if that makes a difference. Tools > Options> Output Plugins. BTW, I think the pr...

Re: Level auto ajustment...works?

A couple of things to check. In addition to the Level Playback Volume option in the Player dropdown, there is a similar check box option in the Tools > Options > Volume Leveling > Level Playback Volume. In my playing with that checkbox, each seems to override the other in Monkey 3.1.0.1256 and visa ...

Re: Just List Albums 1.6 [MM2+3]

I guess it comes down to permission. When I open Monkey as an Administrator in Vista the script works without the error message. Thanks for steering me in the right direction K_r and thanks for the script Trixmoto!
