I do a sort of "tiered" Genre like that using the Grouping field in MM. I run a white list of acceptable "top level" genre's (pretty broud) that I throw in that field and then a more detailed white list against the regular Genre field. Can then create Autoplaylists off both fields as needed.

You don't even need to do all that. You can sort by multiple columns. Sort by Album Artist, hold Ctrl key and then click the Date column and it'll sort by that next. You'll see the sort arrow on both column headers.

Looks like you can't edit the Lyrics with multiple files selected at once. However you should be able to select multiple files and run an Addon like:

..which would basically tag the two tracks the same for you.

Does it do it if you disable Skinning?

Tools > Options > Skin > Override Skin w/ Win default (something like that)

You can put both in the Genre field, separate with a semi colon (;) and it will show up under both Genres if you expand the Genre tree. Not sure if that's what you're asking.
