Re: 24 bits 96 kHz CD question
This is interesting. I'd like a program that can display the bits and bobs and kHz's, the mp3 bitrate, the flac quality level and so on. I think we have found that Explorer is not reliable and cannot display the truth. I used to use old programs such as: Mr Question Man http://www.burrrn.net/mrq ...

Re: DRM restrictions
Copy Control (the method once used by Sony, EMI and Universal) uses a "helper" program that autoruns on disc insertion and then presents only locked tracks for playback. The regular audio table of contents is usually also slightly corrupted, and errors are also introduced in the blocks of data ...

Re: 24 bits 96 kHz CD question
Standard Audio CD is 16-bit/44.1 kHz. What you have is an HDCD which is coded at 24-bit/44.1 KHz. Most CD readers can read this 24-bit format, but most software just ignore it thus strip the additional 8 bits of data. That's not correct. HDCD data is 16/44.1. It uses the lowest-resolution bit of ...

Re: iTunes 9.0 Compatibility: Going back to iTunes 8.2.1
How to go back to iTunes 8.2.1 for Windows I've tested this method on two of my computers (both 32 bit XP), including one with a fairly large library in iTunes, and seems to work okay. 1. Deallocate computer--in iTunes, choose "Store" -> "Deallocate Computer". Follow the prompts until you get the ...

Re: iTunes 9.0 Compatibility
I had the problem with the iphone dll as above, and I also had a problem where I tried to start a m4b file and MM told me I don't have the latest quicktime, which is required to play this file. Then MM crashed with a bunch of glorious error codes, and it won't play any m4b files (I assume until I ...

The major record labels have decided to release music in MP3 format through Amazon mainly as a way to fight Apple. Seems that Apple's iTunes store holds a huge amount of the legal downloads market, which allows Apple to set terms for carrying the tracks, including pricing. IPods are the most popular ...

eMusic
I've been a subscriber to eMusic for a long time, and it's a good service. The files are delivered in VBR MP3 (no DRM, though I think that there might be some kind of identifier in the file to identify it if it shows up in filesharing) and the various plans make it easy to grab entire albums at a ...

MP3s and Gapless Playback
What you're looking for is called gapless playback, and it's highly dependent upon the types of encoding and playback that you use. Standard MP3 files, for example, do not natively support gapless playback; instead, they allow for a little bit of padding of silence to the beginning of the file. And ...

Well, I'm another of those affected by the Yahoo buyout of MusicMatch. I had started with version 5, and had purchased "all future upgrades". I had even purchased a second license for my wife's computer, also with "all future upgrades"; unfortunately, it was just as Yahoo was buying them out. I had ...
