Adding filetypes to MediaMonkey?

Post by cubanresourceful »

I have FLAC files, but I would like to put them in Matroska containers, (.MKA), essentially, they are still FLAC files, just in a different container. Like a FLAC in an OGG container. How can I add this filetype, it should be able to play it since its just a FLAC file, though I'm not too sure if a splitter may be needed...?

Okay, I have now delve into this dilemna headfirst, and here are my results. Muxing my FLAC file into MKA, with MKVMERGE GUI, could not add it to library. Duh. I even edited MediaMonkey.ini, and still nothing. I didn't expect results, but there it is. Now, renaming the extension to FLAC, I can add it to the library. And it plays too. The only thing not working are the tags, but this could be due to MediaMonkey, (trying to read the FLAC tags from the Matroska container, which of course will not have the tags.) This can be worked around by possibly storing tags outside the file, though I do not know much of that, I think a CUE file could fill in that problem. (From what I have read.) What do you guys think?

Any particular reason why you want to change the file container to .mka?

I know it sounds dumb, but I want my media library the same. I have 3000+ tracks, in MP3, WMA, M4A, and FLAC. I want to mux them all, so even though the audio streams are different, the containers are the same. Not only that, all my videos are in MKV format, and I just want to commit the consistency all over the board. I know this sounds weird, maybe its my OCD, I don't know, but it really annoys me knowing I have tracks in different formats. (Even though I am rebuilding my collection in FLAC, a slow process might I add.)

All I would like to know, if there was a way I can add an extension, or even hex edit, I am not afraid of editing files. :) I know you can use Winamp plugins with MediaMonkey, correct? What if I stick the directshow plugin (I think its called that), and enable it in MediaMonkey, would that allow the correct splitting of the files? And lastly, why are the tags not showing up, even though I can play the file? Is it due to not being able to read the tags in the FLAC file, or is it due to some limitation or something I didn't do right in the muxing?
