Can MediaMonkey Play 24/192 flac files

Post by mtan002 »

I have a ESI Julia sound card which supports 24 bits and up to 192 kbps. But I can't get MediaMonkey to play it. I have configured the output to point to the Julia device. What's wrong? CPlay is able to do it. Wondering how I can get MediaMonkey to do it.

Thanks

Yes I think it should do it. What is the Output plugin you use?
Have you enable Hardware Acceleration?

I used MediaMonketDirectSound and had the hardware acceleration ticked.
It played OK but the ESI Panel showed that it is being played at 44.1K instead of the 96K.

Yes this is normal because the output rely on the input. Your sound card will not convert the input signal.

IOW if your input is a mp3 44KHz, the output will be 44KHz.
The specs of sound card only indicates the maximum throughput it can handle.

The music files are 24/96. If I play them with Foobar2000, they are played correctly with the ESI Panel showing 96K sampling rate.

Sorry, I can't help you, I'm not knowledgeable enough with this.

But it certainly have something to do with input/output plugins.

Personally I have set up my SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtrem to play at 24bit/48KHz. I can set it to 24/96 and it will still play, but it makes my receiver enters in PCM96 mode and it can't send this signal to all 5 speakers.

I posted this question in computeraudiophile forum and obtained the answer to solve the isue --- ASIO plug-in is needed.

MediaMonkey is now playing correctly up to 24bits/192K hi-res files.

Cheers.

I got the link to the plugin from the addons tab of the MediaMonkey home page. However, here it is:

http://otachan.com/out_asio(dll).html

The page is in Japanese, but you can use google translate to convert it to English. When selecting the plugin in from the options page, you can configure the plugin and there is an option to sample at 192. I myself also have a ESI Juli@ which I use this ASIO plugin to drive. I then connect Juli@ to my stereo using RCA cables. I think that it sounds great with just the 44khz (CD) source material, I'm sure it would sound better with true 24/192 source material.

Good Luck!
