MM as Shoutcast default

Post by ululator »

I’ve always listened to Shoutcast radio through MediaMonkey without any problems.
However, the new Mini-Player has proven to be an extremely annoying complication.
I’ve tried again & again to assign MediaMonkey as my preferred default, following all the steps outlined by Shoutcast – but my changes never take.

Each & every time I try to access a radio station in MediaMonkey, the Mini-Player opens instead. Each & every time, the Shoutcast page in MediaMonkey displays the same instructions for configuring the default player.

When I select & save the “Play in your Default Media Player” option, the Shoutcast page goes blank, then displays an error message stating “Could not obtain OLE control window handle.”

This error message cannot be cleared by clicking “OK.” I have to use Task Manager to close MediaMonkey. If I then immediately re-open MediaMonkey, I can access my radio station – within MediaMonkey, not the Mini-Player – as I wanted to in the first place.
That’s way too much trouble to go through each time I want to listen to radio!

As I said, I’ve tried again & again to assign MediaMonkey as my preferred default, following all the steps outlined by Shoutcast. MediaMonkey already was assigned as my default player for .pls files. I even unassigned, and then reassigned it, to see if that would work.

Why won’t Shoutcast save my preferences from one day to the next?
And more importantly… How do I fix this problem??????

I realize this is a Shoutcast issue… but it does affect my usage of MediaMonkey.
Have any other MediaMonkey users experienced the same problem?
If so, has anyone discovered a solution – other than switching to iTunes when I want to listen to radio?

FYI addendum:
I posed this same question to the WinAmp/Shoutcast forum:
They said it was not their problem - they recommended I use WinAmp to resolve it.
They said it was strictly a MM issue.

In Upper left corner theer is switch to Classic Shoutcast and that will work as it always did.

Re Winamp Forum: no comment

EDIT: I just tested with upper right Corner Configure Default player and changed it to Play into default media Player -> Save. All worked well even after MM restart. It depends on your internet settings you may need to go to http://www.shoutcast.com/ and configure Shoutcast default player inside Internet explorer itself.

Peke, you’re a genius!!!

The “Classic Shoutcast Radio 1.0” link did the trick. Now I can listen to Shoutcast radio from within MediaMonkey (without opening the Mini-Player.)

I’ve attempted (repeatedly) to reconfigure Shoutcast both from within MediaMonkey & online at the Shoutcast page… but the circumstances remain the same, as I had originally described.

I still don’t know why that is… but thanks to your tip, I can bypass that whole mess.

You saved the day – thanks!
