Possible to Autoconvert by Genre? [#6377]

Post by scruffylg »

I'm moving to a new MP3 player that will have less space than my current one, and I need to decrease the converted size of some of my files.

I have a *lot* of comedy albums and lectures in my library. Although I ripped them at 128kbps for posterity, there's no reason I need to transfer them to my player at that bit rate.

Is it possible to have Media Monkey autoconvert all my files of genre "Comedy" or "Lecture" to be 32 or 64kbps and everything else 128Kbps (default)?

My understanding is that I can change the conversion settings on a track-by-track basis, but is there any way to automate it according to genre via some sort of setting or script, so I can set it once and then forget about it?

Any and all help appreciated.

No unfortunately, but it is nice idea I added it as http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=6377

To do want you want now you need to use Advanced Search and covert them manually to destination format (Use Convert and Copy without adding them to library to avoid duplicates) before sync them to player.

If you need help on setting advanced search and convert ask and someone will help you for sure.

The easiest way [sic] is to convert all audio books to another format on your PC and keep the music in mp3. Let's take OGG. When you're done with the conversion you can create autoconversion rules for your mp3 player.

Tools -> Options; Portable/Audio Devices
Check to see if your player is listed, otherwise connect the device and check it's plug-in File.
Press configure, a nice and complicated screen pops up.
click on the Auto-Conversion (top row) tab and klick on the <Add autoconversion rule> rule.
Format on PC: OGG
Bitrate: Any
Format on Device: MP3 and press settings and create your own setting or use a preset.
I would go for a Variable bitrate with lowest settings and Mono (also good when listening with one ear).
Press OK, make sure it's checked and off you go!

I don't know how your Audio books are tagged or ID'd, but creating some auto-playlists may come in handy.
Use the Tag "Status" with value "is audiobook" to seperate them from your music or create a genre audiobook.

Good luck!
