Digital output for external DAC?

Post by fishyguy »

hi,

I have not used this product but am trying to figure out if it will work for my proposed application. I am looking to put my entire cd collection on to a computer and to leave the cd encoding as is (not convert to mp3, etc). Then be able to use a software program (hopefully this one) to manage the collection and output in digital format to an external DAC converter. I am hoping that the software would be able to allow me to do this along with looking up artist or song and maybe even displaying cd (album) artwork. The computer I am planning to get would be set up just for this function and hooked up to my stereo. One more question, I have about 900 cds and am wondering what size memory storage would I need to store that many cds without compressing them. Most are audiofile type (MFSL, DCC, etc) and I want to get the highest quality output to the DAC converter. Any help or suggestions to an audiofile that is unfamiliar with computer software and storage for this type of application would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks eyal this gives me some good information to get started. Seems I can get by with a very cheap computer (maybe a small laptop) as long as the computers sound card has a digital output compatable with my current DACs input and if I can hook up to a large external hard drive (maybe 2TB). One more question I forgot to ask, does MediaMonkey allow you to use a jukebox type function? Sometimes its nice to just have the system play random songs as background music. So thanks eyal and if anyone else has experience in this area I would love to hear about it.

There's also many DJ scripts add-ons (with different possiblities) you can install.
