Dont want any videos to appear anywhere in MM [#8836]

Post by Laserbean »

Hi all,
I use MM for music only. I do not want any video files to appear in any node, including "my computer". How can I achieve this? Can I switch off certain file types?
All best

No, My Computer always lists all files compatible with MediaMonkey as it isn't about file in the Library. In the Library you can filter with Collections or don't add the video files in the first place. Use Collection > Location node to get the same navigation as the My Computer node, but only showing files in the Library.

There is a simple way to exclude videos or any other file type in MM. Use the 'Insert' key to Add/Rescan Folders. Click the 'File Types' button and deselect the files you don't want scanned. They will remain deselected so you won't have to do it each time you scan. You may have to remove video files that are already in your tree, but MM will not add anymore of those files.

That will only exclude it from the library based on Add/rescan, but the OP wants to exclude video files even from the "My computer" node, which views all possible file types and doesn't take any file type options for the library into account.

I do wonder though, you may be able to exclude video files from MM altogether (including the "My computer" node by deleting the video plugins (in the \MediaMonkey\Plugins\ folder). That would include:
f_AVI.dll
f_FLV.dll
f_mkv.dll
f_MPG.dll
f_video.dll
f_WMV.dll

Then that's even simpler. In the 'Add/Rescan' window just deselect all the drives and folder that don't contain any music files. When I bought MM4 two weeks ago, after the install MM4 scanned my whole computer for files. When I saw all stuff the scan collected I had the same problem the OP had. Fortunately I haven't started work on the MM4 database so I cleared the database and did a rescan this time making sure the drives, folders, and file types I didn't want included in the rescan were deselected and unchecked and bingo only music files have appeared since. After setting up the way computer is to be scanned the OP will not have anymore problems with undesired file types, but he will probably still have to delete the undesired files and folders that are already in his tree. Do not delete dll files, that is never a good idea.

You do not understand. He doesn't want video files to show in MM, regardless of whether he is browsing his library or files that are not in the library with MM. The options for file types only apply to files in the library.

Deleting those .dll files will not do any harm other than not letting him play video files, and he could easily retrieve them by reinstalling MM.

That would be a great suggestion for MM5. Having the ability to turn/off or hide/unhide parts of the node tree would be something the programmers can do. But, it is not in MM4, it is an OS problem. Using the 'diskpart' program in the Windows 7 OS use this link: http://www.blogsdna.com/6654/4-steps-to ... -drive.htm. Or here is small program that will do the trick. Folder Lock is free, the encryption part of program is limited to 25 Mg and you will have to buy the program to use that part. http://download.cnet.com/Folder-Lock/30 ... entBody;2d.

PS: Reinstall MM. Are you serious.

Yes?

What's the big deal? Just download the installer and run it, like any other upgrade would be. All your settings and DB are intact, I don't see the big issue with it...

Couldn't you just cut and paste them out to a different location and then reinsert them later if you wanted them back, rather than reinstalling?
