Songs being skipped/not played - FLAC (banshee fine) [#9916]

Post by jaygeekay »

Hi folks,
I have a strange problem with a particular album (FLAC) i downloaded from bandcamp recently.
When I try to play this album in MediaMonkey it skips the first couple of songs, plays a bit of the third, skips again to the last one, plays a bit of that and that is it.

This album plays fine in banshee (on Linux) and foobar200 (on the same windows machine).

Any ideas/suggestions appreciated,,
Jim.

p.s. the other 40000 or so FLAC files in my library play fine too.

Could you upload at least one track somewhere and give us a link then?

Thanks,

OK - I sorted this out - i recreated the FLAC from the original FLAC using dbPowerAmp converter and it is playing fine now. Mediamonkey must have seen something it did not like in the original file - that other players were happy with.

Cheers, Jim.

You should still share one of the originals with support so they can analyze if anything in MediaMonkey can be improved to handle these files even if they have some form of corruption in them.

Hi Lowlander,

Sorry about this - but I thought of that too late I'm afraid - i overwrote the originals without thinking.

I'll have a root around and see if i can find any of the originals cached anywhere.

I can play this file with MM 4.0.7 without problems. Could you test it on different computer or install clean MM4.0.7. portable to different folder and try again? And in case you reproduce it, please generate debug log, thanks.

Weird - I just downloaded the debug version and it played fine. So I reinstalled the normal version and there's the problem again.

I'm a software engineer myself - and I hate these particular type of problems - they are usually not a good sign.

anyways, thanks for the replies, best of luck finding a solution.

Jim.

p.s. if you need anything else off me attempting to track this down, just let me know.

Based on the log it seems to be output plug-in related. Which one do you use and can you reproduce it using another one?

Thanks,

Hi, I'm using the MediaMonkey DirectSound output plugin, no DSP.

Wil try some other plugins when I get a chance, Jim.

I dunno if this helps, but this FLAC is 24 bits per sample - how good is MediaMonkey at playing codecs at 24 bits per sample?

When I decreased this to 16 bits using dbPowerAmp - all is good.

But it plays the other 24 bits FLACs ok.

Jim.

p.s. I tried the other output plugins and they all behave simlarly, one of 'em crashed.

I have been having the same problems with SACD conversions.

I have one set of CD FLACs that won't convert using Foobar @24 or @16.

Now understand, WinAmp can play the raw SACD FLACS with no problem @24.

So, it is sounding more and more like a dll that handles input in MediaMonkey.

What d'all think?

Peace LOVE & Happiness

Make sure you're not using the waveOut Output Plug-in as it has limitations (it's old).
