Suddenly, duplicates everywhere!

Post by tadcook »

Never seen this before.

Over the past few days I am seeing duplicates of each new track added. The file itself is not duplicated, but there is an additional entry for recently added tracks, showing all the same info, including my ratings, but with a different Added time/date.

There are not two of each track, and I have verified this by looking in the subdirectory where the track is, with Windows Explorer. There is only one of each file.

I can fix these by doing a Delete, and selecting From the Library Only, but this gets tedious.

What could be causing this?

I've tried using Maintain Library, but to no avail.

Do the duplicates have the exact same path? Also do you use the MonkeyFlow Addon (it has been reported that it shows duplicates when none are in the Library).

Yes, the paths are exactly the same. And no MonkeyFlow here. The only difference is the timestamp.

It turns out, the paths are not EXACTLY the same. But the second path for the duplicates does not exist when I look at Windows Explorer.

I took a screenshot, unfortunately I don't see a way to post it.

The original path is G:\MUSIC\artist and the duplicate is G:Music\artist. In the duplicate path there is no G:\ just G: and the folder name is mixed-case, while the original is all caps.

In the screenshot example, the tracks I am looking at have timestamps between 5:51 PM and 5:54 PM. All the duplicates show 6:29 PM, same date.

Everything else is identical.

An easy fix is to sort everything by path, then Delete from Library Only the bad entries, but I can't figure out why this is happening with everything I rip over the past few days.

You can use http://imageshack.us to attach screenshots.

This sounds strange. Are you using MediaMonkey 4.0.7? If so you should capture this behavior in a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69

Yes, I am using MM 4.0.7.1511, but I can't find the logging function. When I check Help and search for debug, I see lots of references to debug logs, but nothing on how to create one. Can't find it under Tools. Step 4b of what? Would I have to be running the logging function while the bogus entry is being created? (which I don't know about until after the fact).

Here is the link to the image:

My laptop is off to Lenovo for a few days for service, so I won't be able to follow up til next week.

Follow instructions here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69 (you'll need to install the debug version of MediaMonkey and run DBGView, then everything is the same as normal MM).

A couple of weeks later, I figured this out.

The problem began when selecting drives to rip to. At some point I apparently typed in a g:Music/artist/ path instead of using the already established path, G:/MUSIC/artist/, and that path remained as a selection in the drop-down.

This caused a problem when I had several CDs that I thought perhaps I hadn't ripped. I ripped them, and accidentally selected g:Music/ instead of G:/MUSIC/ where they had already been ripped. I wasn't warned about the redundant ripping, apparently because the path looked different to MediaMonkey, probably because of the missing / after the drive designation. Then when I did searches later, I saw the duplicate tracks.

But I have never been able to figure out how to delete any of the paths from the choices presented in the drop-down when I am about to rip. So every time I rip, I am presented with every drive path option I have ever used. I tried using Delete, but that didn't do it.

How do I clean this up? Seems like it should be simple, but I cannot find anything on it.

Paths are normally stored in the ini: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... ticleid=17

Thanks! That worked great.

For anyone else trying to do this, search in the .ini file for one of the mask lists:
