4.1 upgrade acting spastic.

Post by rrfpacker »

Yesterday I upgraded to 4.1 with much trepidation. New upgrades never go well.

After installing I clicked the open button. MM opened and worked fine. I closed and reopened a couple hours later and I got a square in the upper left of my screen that kept jumping around. I clicked on it and got the error message that MM was not responding. Shut it down, waited a bit and tried again. After about five minutes MM opened and all was fine for a couple of hours.

After shutting down last night and starting MM today, the spastic behaviour is back. I uninstalled and reinstalled and have the same problem. I have a lifetime license and I've had a portable install since it was available. Any thoughts?

I haven't added anything since yesterday, actually I haven't added anything for a long time. The only thing I did after installing 4.1 and liking how the lyric search worked was uninstall MiniLyrics. And no I don't see this when MM is running correctly. This little square looks like MM compressed, like it's trying to fit into a 1 1/2 square. And you can't do anything, it jumps around, like it's trying to install but just can't get there.

edit; I was able to get the non-skinned .exe to open. However, 4.1 still has same problem.

I tried to reinstall 4.1 again. Now I'm getting an error at the end of the installation when I click "Launch" that reads

Unable to execute file;
M\MM4\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey.exe (this is my normal location and has been for over a year)
CreateProcess failed; code 740
The requested operation requires elevation.

What the heck? How do I fix this or go back to 4.0.7.1511?

Could be left over MiniLyrics stuff. I'd suggest capturing this in a debug log (step 4b) and sending the log to support so the developers can see why this is happening: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69

Tried installing the debug version and get same error as before about elevation, so it won't install. As a reminder, the non-skinned version opens. I haven't poked around to see if the lyrics/album art function works but I do know that the column browser problem I was having with 4.0.7.1511 (only one or two columns appear) is still there.

I'll reinstall MiniLyrics and see what happens and report back.

Update: Installed MiniLyrics and now MM 4.1 works as it should. Kinda sucks. Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Same error for me with the debug version also.

I now have MM free download running. It just popped up although I chose the Gold version. ??!

But when I try to get GOLD ( I click on "existing users click here") on the download page I get the 740 code fail to elevate again.

Maybe the Gold download is the problem?

Those 2 files are exactly the same. That's not the issue.

Based on info problem lies in elevated command executed without proper UAC prompt.
See http://mashtips.com/elevated-command-prompt-windows8/

Solution would be to start MMW using un as Administrator and or use above solution to set MMW start as administrator.

Please let us knwo if that fixes your issue so that we can see if there is possibility to instruct Windows to show correct command prompt.

Peke, I'm not getting the error anymore; but I don't know if it is because I saved the .exe and checked the box in Properties to run as administrator instead of clicking run when downloading. Sorry.

As an update, MM is working very well now. Maybe this weekend I'll uninstall MiniLyrics and see if it still works.
