Podcast Subscription Problem [#11881]

Post by deraj12 »

Hello friends! I'm unable to subscribe to any rss feeds from Librivox.org. Here's a sample url:
https://librivox.org/rss/366

I notice that the files listed in these feeds are actually hosted at us.archive.org... Perhaps this is an odd construction for an rss? I'm positive these feeds worked in MM3.

Current MM version is 4.1.0.1692 on win 8.1.

Anyone else having this problem? Thanks for the awesome media player!

It seems to be working just fine for me on 4.1 with that feed. Does the link open in a internet browser for you? Have you tried again (maybe server had issues)?

Yes, it does open in a browser just fine. I've just tried it again, same error. Normally, Firefox auto subscribes to feeds using Mediamonkey. If I manually add the url I get this error:

https://librivox.org/rss/366 - Socket Error # 10060
Connection timed out.

This happens almost immediately after hitting ok. Many other podcast download just fine. I've even tried reinstalling with no luck. Thanks for the quick reply!

Well, now I'm really at a loss. I've just reinstalled windows, installed MM with no prior appdata -- and all of the podcasts I subscribe to work except the ones from Librivox! They give me the same socket error #10060. What could be going on?

The site is refusing your connection. Maybe they have your IP blacklisted for some reason. The podcast works for me too.

Ok, after a bit more sluthing here is what I've determined:
MM 4.0.7.1511 on Win 8.1 CAN access all podcast, even those from Librivox.
MM 4.1.0.1692 on Win 8.1 CAN access all podcast, EXCEPT those from Librivox.
MM 4.1.0.1692 on XP CAN access all podcast, even those from Librivox.
MM 4.1.0.1692 on Win 7 CAN access all podcast, even those from Librivox.

I'm not sure exactly the why or the how that this particular machine running 4.1 is not able to access one certain podcast site, I guess it's just a mystery for a ages...
I've rolled back to 4.0.7 for now. Thanks to everyone for all your help!

It must be something platform-specific. I'm able to easily replicate this--Thanks.

For what it's worth I'm using Windows 8.1 and current MM build and could not reproduce.
