Delete WELCOME screen

Post by Al Fischer »

Just put the 4.1.1.1703 on. How do I get rid of the uncloseable welcome screen popup? This needs to be a CLOSEABLE item.

EDIT by Rusty: The welcome screen only appears on new installs and after updating in case we need to provide you with update messaging. More importantly, it can be easily closed by clicking any other content in the tree on the left (Music, Podcast, Audiobook, etc.) OR by closing the tab if it appears within one. In addition, if you have MM Gold, you can disable the Web node via Tools > Options > Library > Media Tree and disable [x] Web.

If you are referring to the Splash Screen that welcomes you when you start MM each time,
go to - Options > General > uncheck "Show spalsh screen at startup".

I must be referring to something else. I unchecked the box for showing the splash screen.

It says Welcome to MediaMonkey and points to $10 in downloads from Amazon. Have no been able to make it go away.

Do you mean the Web tab? Just close it or navigate somewhere else.

Well, I guess that's what I meant because after figuring out where to click it finally went away. That pop-up is unnecessary and should never appear. It would be acceptable if there was at least an intuitive CLOSE button.

Just click literally anywhere (Music, Playlist, Podcasts, etc.) to change the view. I don't see the big deal. The welcome screen shows only on a new installation or after an upgrade has been installed.

The 'Big Deal' is not seeing how to get rid of it. Makes it hard to get on with setting up MM. IMHO it needs to be easy to figure out for those of us who are just starting with MM. How about a simple CLOSE button or a little red X?

People who upgrade will see the close button as they'll have multiple tabs.

You don't need to close it. Just click on anything like you would normally do to view your library, playlists, etc. It seems very intuitive.

"all you gotta do" is not helpful - ever. Everyone here gets that this is a revenue driver, and MM likes the integrated browser hot, but as a long standing MM user I can confirm this is the most annoying aspect of MediaMonkey. It's some form of default page, that has a mind of its own. If you beat the monkey enough it goes away, and in many schools that sorry result is better thank appletune.

I've had people advise me on things "in the spirit of" all you gotta do before, and it has
"almost always" been helpful (that doesn't mean that it's always helpful  ).

Almost everything commercial has some sort of way of generating revenue (goes back long before Apple)
and some are certainly more annoying than others. But you really shouldn't be having an issue with the
web ad page unless you've done a fresh install.

After that you click on something else. If you then do a new install later, you use your backed up database file
which should eliminate that problem.

....unless it's coded in the free version to come up at the beginning
of a fresh install, regardless of an inserted backed up DB. ...?
I don't know, It's been so many years since the free days.

I mean, seriously, I get that there will be the occasional person that will do an install, the web page will come
up and they will just stop and stare and not try anything (and I for one, as others here, will be happy to help). But is this really
happening too often? How many other posts in this forum are there, other than this thread that has - one or two?, with that complaint?
I'm talking about "actual" complaints, not just "what do you do" or how do you fix it" > solution is given > then, "ok, thanks" type stuff.

Every update will open the Web tab, next to your existing tabs. Close it and that's it. On a fresh install navigate to the node you want to see.

Really? I've never noticed that it happens everytime I update "up front or next to anything". Maybe.
I'll have to pay closer attention next time. I think I've only ever seen it come up initially a couple of times in the past.

To follow on this I have to ask WHY as a gold (have already paid) should I ever see this. It adds nothing to my experience. I understand the need for revenue but if one has paid for it does MMW really need to continue asking for money? If haven't gotten enough from buyers maybe rethink the price.

That's a fair point dtsig. I'm about to do another update either today or tomorrow.
I will look to see if it comes up again. Then post back as to the nature of this showing up in
a paid version.
