I've been using MediaMonkey for several years but this week updated to the newest version of the free download. There appeared to be some error messages with the re-install (An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory (code 5, code 32 etc) access is denied) this happened many times and the only way to complete installation was to click Retry. Now of course MM is not performing very well, it freezes, skips and cannot add/rescan to the library.
Is there any way to fix this or revert back to my previous version which worked perfectly?
Apologies if I have placed this in the wrong place or missed an answer to a similar question, this is the first time I have had cause to visit this forum
Many thanks

Re: Update installation issues
You are using the free version? .....or getting free to enter key? Your destination directory is C:\Program Files?
Sounds like your new MM might have become corrupt.
Copy/Backup your database and uninstall program, then try dowloading it from an alternate site like softpedia http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/M ... -6209.html
This has often worked for me when I've had install problems with various programs.

Re: Update installation issues
Thanks, yes, the free version on the C: drive. Sorry to be naive, but how can I copy/back up my existing MM folders/playlists etc?
Re: Update installation issues
Look for .DB and .ini files in:
- regular install
o Windows 8 / 7 / Vista:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.DB
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MediaMonkey.ini
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MetadataCache\
o Portable Mode:
In the 'Portable' subdirectory of the location to which MediaMonkey was installed. e.g.
PortableDrive:\MediaMonkey\Portable\MM.DB
PortableDrive:\MediaMonkey\Portable\MediaMonkey.ini
PortableDrive:\MediaMonkey\Portable\MetadataCache\
- FIRST, make a copy of them. You can just copy them to a folder on the desktop.
- uninstall current install.
- install new download.
- find those locations again.
- delete .DB and .ini from new install.
- insert desktop folder copies into those locations of new install.
if you want to retain settings for some other "views/GUI manipulations" settings, you can also copy the .registry file and MetadataCache following above istructions.
You can also move any scripts, background images, playlists (not certain on playlist reintegration as I don't usually use path file based playlists), etc. but these (or some of these?) will not auto integrate. You'll have to click back on the non-native scripts to reinstall and possibly reset the theme and images in options. I don't remember exact locations of these as I am not in front of home computer.
I can look later this evening. But not necessary for basic reinstall.
maybe Lowlands or nohits can jump in on playlist integration. it maybe in .DB, but I think there is a separate playlist file???

It appears that playlist data is in the .DB . Scroll down a bit and refer to the section "Database Structure" http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... _structure Click on diagram 3x to enhance view.
MM uses a mediamonkey.m3u8 file to manage its own "now playing" list (but don't transfer .m3u8 unless you care about the most current
thing you had running in now playing that wasn't loaded into now playing from a "personal/permanent" playlist. Even then, it might not show up.
Just "save" it as another playlist if you are concerned.
