tags mixed up and changed by mm...2nd time..

Post by kzabak »

so after it happend 3 years ago i recently wanted to do db maintenance with 200k songs in the lib...
removed dead links, looked for missing files and did a rescan...

after that, MM somehow managed to take, eg 2 songs of an album and overwrite the tags with ratings and all from another album
this is the seciond time this happens to me with mmw and since im a paying customer this is not acceptable anymore..
do you have any idea how much time this will cost me to a)find he files that arent good anymore and b)retagging single files from an album, maybe 1000times?
this is not acceptable and i will happily look for another player..just a joke
also in like 10y i use this software, it has maybe become 5% more stable and it seems new features are thrown in without ever stableing out the main prog features
its just not bearable...
any idea how i can prevent this/revert it?
i am almost crying when i look at my db now and think of the days i have to invest to get this back to my original state...didnt think about playcounts and all the other stuff it brings with it

last time this happened i had half a year grudge vs MM...dunno if i will ever go back...just a joke

I'd suggest to not do multiple file operations the same time. I've only once had a tag mixup happening in 10+ years and that was while doing a large Auto-Organize Files and playing files (a file playing got tags from a file being moved). This seemed to only be a database issue as the file was untouched (it would affect file if any tagging operation would be done subsequently).

Otherwise MediaMonkey seems pretty stable under normal operations (I do recommend restarting it once in a while) even with all those new features in use.

can i confirm that before doing the operation?
where can i find out if its a db prob or the tags are changed...open in another library/playr-if title is changed its a tag prob, right?

A rescan may do the trick (I didn't try that) if you allow it to rescan all files (ie. disable the only changed timestamp option).

If you use Auto-Organize Files you could see which files would need to be organized again. Files for which tags have been changed in the database should show highlighted (don't commit the Auto-Organize Files, use it as information).

could synchronizing tags have sth to do with it?

Synchronize Tags will save the database values to the files. This would not be recommended if the database values are incorrect (it looks that way).

If it's written to the files the only recovery options would be a backed up database or trying to recover from the filename with Tools > Auto-Tag from Filename.

I am seeing the same problem on about 17 pairs of songs. The incorrect tags were written out into the songs after I did a 'synchronize tags' operation. I stumbled upon this while browsing through the 'Files to Edit' node for possible issues. These were listed under 'duplicate content.' When I opened up the properties window, I saw that the tags were wrong on one of the two files (of each of the 17 pairs).

I retrieved the songs from my back up disk and did a complete rescan. Even now these 17 pairs are listed as duplicate content when they are completely different files (Different CD rips, different bit rates). I rescanned without enabling duplicate detection (as I have over 20k songs). Also, rescan ends up with a bunch of inconsistent artwork issues. I don't store artwork in the music files but only as folder.jpg. MM4 shows some songs in the album do not have picture type as 'image/jpeg' whereas the rest have it. I wrote a script to fix these db only issues.

I do not know if these happened from MM3 -> MM4 move or while moving to the new hard disk with the new computer.
