this problem occurred using and ipod nano and a sony 8 gb walkman- i use the nano for my description...
when using media monkey to sync a 'direct mp3' joined track to my ipod nano (8gb), the ipod only recognizes the joined file as having a duration the same as whatever the first track's is.
to try and clarify:
if the first track from a compilation (such as combining the tracks from an audio book cd) has a duration of 1:30 minutes, then the joined file that is synched to my ipod through media monkey will only allow resumed playback or any searching through the file to occur before the 1:30 mark. otherwise the file will stop and the ipod will return to the main menu. any attempt to restart the joined file in this state will cause it to reset the ipod to the main menu. the file plays fine before this point, however will not resume playback if stopped past it...
with itunes everything works just fine. however, i don't wish to install itunes or quicktime on my computer...
please help!
problem with direct mp3 joiner and portable devices

Re: problem with direct mp3 joiner and portable devices
i should add, i've tried many things including renaming every aspect of the file i could using various id3 tag editors and ripping cds that had no information whatsoever for the tracks before joining them, but for some reason media monkey seems to be recognizing the imprint of the end of the first track in the joined files and it's screwing up my portable device playback royally.
Re: problem with direct mp3 joiner and portable devices
this is the copy of an email I sent to MM support, re posted here and slightly altered to try and clarify the situation:
The problem is with my ipod and combined mp3's that have been ripped using MM and joined using direct mp3 joiner - MediaMonkey itself plays back these joined files just fine. When played on my ipod however, will play through the point which marks the end of the first track - however will not resume playback beyond it if stopped, nor fast forward or rewind beyond it. the file abruptly stops and my ipod returns to the main menu. When I play the track again, it starts over at the beginning. I have tried all manner of settings on direct mp3 joiner. I have installed itunes and it's crappy bloatware to double check (I had no problem with itunes before moving to MM). Before the end of the first track all functions work fine.
Here are the results for a bunch of scenarios I tested while ripping an audio book. I used a new set of tracks for each test just to make sure. I've been using MM since the start of the year and this problem has persisted through several fresh windows installs.
ripped with MM then combined:
synched to ipod with MM- doesn't work
synched to ipod with itunes- doesn't work
ripped with itunes then combined:
synched to ipod with MM- works
synched to ipod with itunes- works
