Again ... Zen Xtra sync ...

Post by untel123 »

Hello,

In the "known to sync", we have "Zen xtra with new play for sure firmware". So it should work as I have the new firmware.

In searching I found many posts where people like me are having problems. My unit is perfectly seen by my W7 and MM4 copies everything everytime I sync, so it's not properly working but it is working ! MM 4 (latest version) will sync, but it will write everything again even if 95 % of the songs are already in the Zen. Not enough space is the result. In fact, MM4 doesn't recognize the existing music as music and indicates it as "other" for the type of data in the unit when syncing (compared to music, pictures, video).

Currently, I sync music to \music\ directory. Does music have to be in the root directory ? (MM4 can properly see existing music in \music\ directory when syncing an android unit, so it should not be a problem). For the Android unit, it copies only changes.

In searching, I found that all music must be in the same directory in the unit (no artist sub directory). I tried, not working for me. I've seen unit mut be set as "auto sync". That's done, no change. Always copy everything again and again ...

So I suspect something is wrongly set somewhere. Here are my settings. As I'm using a french system, my wording may not be the exact english one but I'm sure you will understand.

Could someone able to properly sync a Zen Xtra (syncing only the changes done since last sync) tells us all the settings he's using. Here are my settings :

Zen Xtra (original 40gb drive) is using d_wmdm.dll
My PC library structure : music\artist\artist - title

Zen Xtra profile in options
First tab
- Search as soon as unit is connected
- sync as soon as unit is connected

Second tab
- Selected all my music and playlists (over 6000 songs) No problem on this side as MM can copy and copy everything to the unit.

Third tab
Auto sync
- Delete files and playlists that are not in the sync list
- confirm erasings

Destination : \music\<Artist> - <Title> (This could be the problem ... ) BTW I only sync music

Tagger : only use first genre when there are many

Playlists : Sync playlists
- Library playlist
- Artists
- Albums

Destination : \My Playlists\
- Use unicode (UTF-8) for M3u

Thanks ! J Guy

You may want to capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and send it to support so the developers can look into what is happening: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ?f=12&t=69

Thanks Lowlander but ... too late for me. While waiting for answers, I tried synchronizing with Windows Media Player. No set up, no file structure to care, nothing to care ! Just plug the Zen xtra and it was fully synchronized within 3 hours (starting Xtra with 0 files to more than 6500). For your information, syncinc while 3 hours with MM4 allowed copying no more than 2500 files.

I validated WMP synchronization in adding 200 files to WMP and modifying few existing files. I connected the Zen Xtra newly synchronized and got a perfect synchronization which took only few minutes to copy the changes : additional and modified files and corrected playlists. In addition, Xtra is now using the same file structure I have in my library : music\artist\artits - title, which makes the Zen Xtra faster to operate.

That was too easy to try again with MM4. It's just too bad that you seem not open to solve this problem. So many people complained about it : synchronization always starts from scratch, time to copy each file increases from beginning to end : few files copied per second at beginning to many seconds per file at the end. I had no problem like that at all with WMP. I think there's something wrong in the global process you use for synchronization and even the not so good WMP is much better than MM4. Sorry about that, but that's real life.

Unfortunately without debug logs it isn't solvable.
