Migrate sync settings to new phone profile [#12439]

Post by gopalapagos »

Hi,

I got a new phone and want my new device sync profile to have exactly the same settings as my previous profile, particularly for which folders to sync. Is this possible? Having to reselect all of the Albums is really tedious (and my phone doesn't have space for everything in my collection).

Thanks!

No, you can export/import a device profile, but it excludes the sync selection.

Hi all,

I upgraded my phone this holiday season and ran into the same issue. A new device profile was created and I had to painstakingly copy over the sync settings from the old profile over to the new one. (I did this last time when I replaced a broken phone; this time, I'm doing a phone model upgrade.)

Looking at the linked Mantis issue, it wasn't clear if there was some hack I could employ to substitute the new device profile into the old device profile using Export/Import. I briefly tried this strategy, and it didn't work. Maybe I didn't do it right though? My more sure-fire approach was to just reselect all of the various albums I wanted to sync than experiment further.

Would be great if there was some option to clone the sync settings in the near future. Given relatively quick upgrade cycles for phones, it seems this could be hitting folks other than me?

Thanks, and best regards,
Gopal

You could do your sync selection through a Playlist instead of selecting individual Albums. An AutoPlaylist can do this (as you can select the Albums or Artists you want synced) and then just select the Playlist(s) for sync instead. This would allow for a far quicker transition with MediaMonkey's current abilities.

Hi,

I've just found this thread and suffering from this inability to 'copy' a sync profile fro device to device.

Our household has our entire music collection of 25000+ tracks on a central server managed with Music Monkey. We have multiple devices that need to sync from this. We have 3 android tablets and 3 android phones. Whenever anything happens to a phone or tablet, the whole sync profile needs to be setup again and this is really tedious and annoying. Especially considering that the old profile is there and contains all the albums, artists and songs a particular device/user wants to sync but can't be used and a new one is created.

I've had to recreate profiles due to broken phones being replaced, failed SD cards and new devices being bought.

Surely, If I have a phone and a tablet, I should be able to select what sync profile to use when I connect it or to duplicate the sync profile from an existing profile into a new one. As a single user, I'd want to be able to have one sync profile for my tablet and my phone so the same stuff gets copied to both.

A suggestion would be to detach the actual list of what to sync from the physical device profile so you could apply any sync list to any physical device.

I see this thread is over a year old and the wish list request linked in the thread is marked urgent but is not really being updated. When can we expect this annoyance to be resolved please?

I'll use the playlist suggestion for now as a workaround but need to see this whole issue resolved.

Thanks

Due the 4.x Design it can't be safely added, but MM5 should be more flexible.
