Samsung S3 wifi sync - can't see server [#11381]

Post by TrickyDicky »

I just love MM for organizing my music but I really would like to be able to synchronize with my S3 via wifi. I have 4.1 beta on the PC and the latest app on the S3. When I selct "sync now" on the app it just goes into an endless "searching" for the sync server. On the PC under "Media Sharing (UPnP/DNLA)" I see MM Library and MM Server listed and they are both enabled and running. What else do I need to set to get the S3 to find the sync server?

When you select UPnP in MMA do you see the MMW server?

No. I see a Twonky Server which I have running on the PC (I also see this as a Media Server in MM on the PC) but I don't see the MMW server.

That means you need to troubleshoot that. Your security software (firewall) may be blocking the MediaMonkey Server also make sure that server and client are on the same network.

Hello, I have the same problem. I don't see the media monkey server in mma upnp but in Bubble UpnP I see it. That is crazy. Sync is not possible.

My Config:
Win8 64 Bit/MMW 4.1.0 1664
SGS3 Android 4.1.2/MMA 1.0.4.0171
Win8/64 bit • MMW Gold 4.1.1.1703 • SGS3 Android 4.3 • MMA Pro 1.0.4.0245

I am not an IT specialist so I would not know how to do any detailed troubleshooting on firewalls. I can say that both the S3 and the PC are on the same network and I have access to PC files from the S3. I also sync perfectly well between both devices using the Samsung Kies Air facility. However, Kies is useless for managing audio files. It would be easier if the MM folks would just say what we need to do. If sync is not yet implemented for use with Android 4.1 then that is also OK. I will just wait for them to issue a version which does work and continue to sync with USB.

Wifi sync has been working fine for me. Unfortunately what a Firewall does is out of the hands of MediaMonkey. Generally you can allow software in a Firewall to pass through, which should fix any Firewall related problems. If that's not possible you're stuck fiddling with enabling ports. The port MediaMonkey uses is set in the Media Sharing options for the Media Server.

I think this is not a problem with the firewall, because I see the mmw library and server in the Bubble UpnP. I can play all the songs there - no problem. But I don't see mm in mma UpnP section. So in my opinion there is any other problem but not with the firewall. I have G-Data Internet Security on my Win8 PC.

That's strange, the only thing that could be a problem is that in MMW you have disabled MMA from accessing the MMW Media Server. However I'm under the impression that this was a device option (MAC address). You can check it in the off chance it is the problem (Tools > Options > Media Sharing). Otherwise I don't know how to troubleshoot this.

freddl, TrickyDicky,

Did you try Lowlander's idea? He's basically suggesting to verify in MMW that the MMA client is configured with rights to access the UPnP server.

Click Options > Media Sharing > MediaMonkey Library, and then make sure that the relevant clients are enabled.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks.

I assume that your issues are permanent and restart of device or MMW doesn't help...is that right ?

You always see MMW in Bubble Upnp? Could you please test, whether you will see MMW in MMA by waiting in UPnP discovery screen for e.g. 2 minutes ? Could you please send me log after that (Go to Options->Send logs) and post here the log id ? Thanks

Rusty,

I am not sure that I understand your question. In the MediaMonkey library I see only 2 devices listed with the name "pvConnect" and "pvConnect Media Manager". They have IP addresses and MACS which do not show up on my router as having accessed the network. I don't see the MMA client and I don't see any possibility to add it manually.

You need to check UPnP in MMA (not MMW) and see if the MMW Media Server shows.

OK, Lets try another Approach.
1. Open MMW
2. Tools -> options -> library -> Media Sharing
3. Configure Running Server
4. Enable Both Options
5. On Server Tab Select Your Local IP and Change Port to 5000 and OK to confirm
6. Than OK to confirm MMW Settongs

On You S3:
1. Download and install https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... droid.fing
2. Scan your Wireless
3. Open IP of PC with MMW Server
4. Select Scan Services and see if 5000 sows in results
5. Now Open MMA -> UPnP
6. If MMA see the server (else skip all steps) Go Back to MM Home Screen
7. Use Menu -> Options -> Select Sync Server
8. MMW should be listed there
9. Test Sync Now

Report back with results.

I followed your instructions. The Scan Services showed 5000 in the results and MMA now sees the MM Server in UPnP which is a breakthrough. However, it still does not find the server under -> Options -> Select Sync Server (...<searching>).
