MMA 'Deleting' on downloading cached transcoded media#11474

Post by rivorson »

Last night I left MMA running a fresh WiFi sync of approximately 950 files, most of which needed transcoding. At some point MMA crashed and failed to complete the sync. I had woken up during the night and the tablet was completely unresponsive but I could see that MMW was still transcoding.

This morning I started the WiFi sync again and the first stage of the sync involved MMA stating 'Deleting' while repeatedly showing the progress bar running from 0% to 100% at varying rates.

I looked at the contents of the tablet's internal storage and saw that it was actually downloading files, not deleting them. Then I looked in MMW's 'Transcoded_Media_Files' folder and found that the folder for the tablet contained several files that had been transcoded on last night's sync and these were the files being downloaded.

The beheviour of downloading the files was correct but when MMA appeared to be deleting a lot of files it caused some confusion. The status message should be uploading to say which file it is downloading.
It also did not show any progress on the overall progress bar during this stage.

Hi, do you still observe this issue in newer builds ? I have added some log messages to next build (189 or later) to reveal what it causes. This build will be soon on play store. So please try it after that. Thank you for your help!

Yes, I'm still seeing this in MMA 189. It's fairly easy to replicate too.

1. Initiate a WiFi sync that includes some tracks that need transcoding.
2. Disable WiFi on the device before the sync can complete.
3. Allow enough time for MMW to transcode the files on the sync list. It's helpful to transcode videos with a codec that puts an icon in the system tray so that you can see when this has finished. Otherwise open Task Manager and wait for the CPU usage to return to idle.
4. Turn WiFi back on for the device and start a new sync.

MMA will download the tracks which were transcoded from the previous sync while the status message says 'Deleting'. The progress bar moves from 0% to 100% as each file downloads.

I have submitted debug log 12KN6HGIG5.

This should be fixed in build 189.

Thanks.

I'm still seeing the same bug in build 202. It only happens when the previous sync was interrupted during transcoding though, and the current sync completes successfully so it's not causing any harm. There are more important issues in development.
