Why Do I Have An "Artworks" Folder Full Of Images?

Post by frankz »

I'm on version 1.0.4.0217 on Samsung Galaxy S4 running Android 4.3.

So I've got all of my music files tagged with embedded artwork, and I've got "Sync all artwork to file folders" UNticked in MMW Options->Tagging. I do not want separate art files on my phone, I want to use the embedded art. Still, I wound up with a folder called "Artworks" under MediaMonkey/files that contains thousands of cover art image files.

I assumed something wasn't working correctly and deleted all the files in "artworks". Now none of my stuff has art when I play it in MMA, but it does have (the embedded) art when I play it in the stock music player. Some tracks do have art when I browse them in MMA (looking at playlists, albums, etc), but most do not, and none have art in the player window.

Can anyone tell me what is happening here and how I can have artwork upon playback without having a cache of files in the "artworks" folder? Shouldn't it read my embedded artwork?

If not, as a last resort can someone tell me how to rebuild my "artworks" folder?

MMA uses a cache of artworks stored in its own folder presumably for the vastly improved performance and also for formats that don't support embedded artwork. Your stock media player most likely has its own cache stored in another folder.

It would be ideal if MMA would create a '.nomedia' file in the /MediaMonkey folder to prevent this cache from showing up in other apps. This should be trivial to implement.

fyi, .nomedia was previously implemented, but there was a bug that caused it to not be created in some cases. It'll be fixed in the next build:

Thanks.
