UPnP downloads -- how should this work? [#12894]

Post by mcow »

I noticed several bugfixes regarding UPnP downloads were included in build 468. I'd never done anything with this feature, so I played around with it.

I navigated to my NAS's server, selected a small playlist, and queued it up (did not start) in Now Playing. I selected the first item in the playlist, tapped Download. Notification appeared. Even after the download was complete, notification showed a Cancel operation.

I found a folder in the UPnP download location (extSdCard/Audiotracks/Music), labelled for the artist of the SECOND item in the playlist; and inside was the FLAC and JPEG art for that track.

Then I turned off wi-fi, and started playing from the start of list.
1) The Now Playing display (and the widget) kept updating with the title of the track being sought, even tho the track was inaccessible. The artwork from the last played track persisted.
2) Neither the FIRST track (which I'd tried to download) nor the SECOND track (which actually was downloaded) actually played.
3) Timeout for each missing track was on the order of ten or fifteen seconds, but there was no way to prevent MMA from advancing across each track trying the same server, track after track -- except, to turn wifi back on, at which point the next advance found the server and started playing tracks.

On completion of the two tracks that were played after wi-fi was turned on, I looked in that download folder again. The FLAC was still there but the JPEG was not.

I guess I must have set this Audiotracks/Music folder in the options at some point, but it was not set as one of the folders to be scanned by MMA; so I added it to the library folder list. When I exited options, I saw the spinning arrow indicating a rescan. However, I don't see the track listed under Albums or Album Artists, the only two category buttons I have set up on my home screen. (See the topic I just started for why I'm not changing the home screen.)

Starting the track from the folder (using an alternate player), it is in fact the track that the name implies (and not the track I'd selected for download).

This is running on an older Galaxy Tab 2 with JB 4.2.2.

Hi mcow,

Tracking the issue of the static cancel button at: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12894

I wasn't able to replicate any of the other issues re. failed downloads :-( Please let me know if you're still seeing it.

Thanks.

Could you please post here screenshot or write what exactly is written on the notification.

Because I can't replicate it. There are more "finished" notifications.

But generally it should dismiss progress notification (you should see animation) and show ANOTHER finished notification. Could you verify it?

The bug can be replicated by just downloading a single file. I've posted images and debug log directly to the bug.

I don't think it was failed downloads, I think it was not quite understanding how this should work. I retried with build 488. Selecting a single track for download (from a folder in my NAS's UPnP server) worked as expected: the correct track showed up in the MMA library after download, and I could play it. When I synced, that track (part of the MMW library) was offered up as a track to remove.

For some reason, I thought that queuing UPnP tracks in NP, and then downloading, and then turning off wifi and trying to play, would substitute the downloaded files for the UPnP entries, but now that I think about it, that makes no sense.

One other issue I saw while testing 488: I opened a three-song playlist on the UPnP server, selected all tracks, and tried to download; but when I pressed the Download button, I ended up in the Now Playing List. Clicking Back got me back to the UPnP folder, and I tried again, pressing the icons very carefully; same result. I then tried successfully to select the tracks individually and download them, and even started a d/l of one track while the earlier one was in progress.

I have not been able to reproduce this problem.

When I sync'd after this, these tracks (not part of MMW library) were not offered up for removal.

Re. the failed download of multiple tracks, I haven't been able to replicate.

The only thing that I did notice is that deletion by way of wi-fi sync of tracks downloaded in this manner requires waiting ~20s for the Android Media Store (and therefore MediaMonkey) to detect the downloaded tracks. My guess is that in your situation, the Android Media Store was taking longer to detect the tracks, though I'm not sure why.
