WIFI sync = low res album art

Post by arachnophilia »

due to the current problem with USB syncing to external SD cards, i tried WIFI syncing again as a troubleshooting step, and ran into the reason i didn't use WIFI syncing in the first place. WIFI sync pulls over low res album art.

i'm on a samsung galaxy s5, which as a 1080p screen, and low res album art looks like complete garbage when the central portion of it is cropped out for the lock screen. so as part of my tagging adventure, i've been pretty meticulous about finding the highest resolution album art i can, and i'm aiming at 1000px square, or bigger. this is no problem for USB sync, and everything looks great. WIFI sync though, and everything turns blurry and pixelated.

and i mean everything, not just the stuff i sync. initiating a WIFI sync degrades all of my album art in my entire library.

the weird part is that i have "copy album art to tags if possible" checked, and the high res file is still in the tags. i've checked with other programs, both on my PC and on my phone. the OEM galaxy player shows the high res art, and winamp in windows (yeah, i still have that installed somewhere) shows it as well.

i checked the "copy to folder" box, too, and told it name the files "<Album>.jpg". it shows a low resolution file in the folder named "albumart.jpg" so, yeah, WTF.

in one case it's transferring an image for the album art that isn't in the file or the library, which has me really baffled. it's showing up with what i had the album art set to a long time ago before managing my library with MMW. it's some kind of fan club promo image; i have no idea where it's getting this image from. the OEM player is showing the correct image, which seems to be in the actual tags. edit: found it; it was still in a bonus track i had elsewhere in the portion of my library still to be sorted -- it was grabbing album art from tracks not in the synced portion of my library!

everywhere else i've used non-standard album art that i can think of off the top of my head is using the images (albeit low res versions) i've included in the tags. i even got one album to switch album art by changing one option to "cover (front)" and the other to "not specified" and putting the cover on top, in MMW. delete the files through MMA, resync, and it switched. but this one, no matter what i try, is pulling up an image that's not even on my computer. every time.

i have another case where i have two alternate versions of the same album with slightly different covers, and they look way closer in my MMW library than they do on my phone. which is odd, but it could be down to my phone screen being poorly calibrated or whatever, so it may be nothing.

Thanks for the feedback. The issue is being tracked at http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=12958

It'll be resolved in the next MMW beta build (1767+).

fyi, the latest beta build of MMW leaves album art resolution for synchronization at the same resolution as the source.
for WIFI sync? it doesn't seem to, no.

USB sync seems to be working though, so, that's something. it took a little finagling, of course. hung on me the first few times. i've cleared out my library and done a fresh install of the latest MMA beta, so i can resync things properly. seems to be working for now.

Hi,
There is few of your test things unclear:
- Was there existing Album Art prior to Wi-Fi sync?
- Have you tried Wi-Fi immediately after clearing?
- Was USB Sync corrected low res Wi-Fi Arts?

Thank you arachnophilia, I've done more tests today to ensure we are testing same thing and that bug have not slipped away.

Here is what I've tested:
- Synched files over USB and checked Album art
- Re-Synched files Over Wi-Fi and Album art was same size even actual files are resynched
- Deleted files and done new sync over Wi-Fi and resynched over USB

Conclusion is that hi res original album art is synched where available.
