2197 - MM locks up when loading db while minimised

I did a clean install of MM5 ... did NOT import data or settings from MM4

I add my music shares using your wizard, and import started ... it takes 20+ minutes ... left it running minimised.

When I come back later, it looks like it has completed, but MM5 is frozen. ... Maybe because it was minimised, and had trouble displaying the completion dbox? ... see this strange label here.

I repeated these steps, because I did not capture an image of the strange label ... the 2nd run had the same result ... I didn't capture a log file because it would be large due to my library size.

You should, create log file and then compress it, it should be much smaller then.

I tried and 127k of tracks imported without issues when MM5 was minimized.

You can always test on folders that have smaller number of tracks.

Steps:

• install clean version of MM5 ... DO NOT import db or settings from MM4

• run through 1st setup wizard to do the following:

• point MM to music shares

• press the wizard option button to make this change, and this change

• provide Gold registration details

At the end of the wizard:

• MM imports data into the db

• minimise MM5 ... go away while it loads

• come back, and MM5 is frozen as illustrated in my 1st post

It looks like MM5 is not frozen, but according to your first screenshot MM5 main window is dimmed -- which would indicate that there is another dialog (maybe the scan results dialog ?) hidden behind the main window?
i.e. looks rather like windows management issue to me (although I cannot replicate the issue)

OK, tried this ... yes it does happen

i.e. looks rather like windows management issue to me (although I cannot replicate the issue)

MM5 still suffers relatively frequently from "windows management issues" .... ie. dboxes sometimes loading at top right of the screen, with just a tiny amount of the lhs frame showing ... sometimes dboxes load under the deactivated MM5 window (although I have not seen this one for a long time) ... windows not repainting properly when resized, or I have closed one on the MM5 panels

I don't see this with any other applications.

I have a few workaround tricks to detect or get past this ... ie. WindowsKey+D to close all, and then just open MM5 .... or alt tab to see all current windows ... or look at the task bar to see if MM5 has multiple windows open

None of these work in this situation .... MM5 is dimmed and is locked ... terminate via Task Manager is required

There is another issue with the 1st thru wizard that I forgot to mention last time ... The node for Microsoft Windows Network doesn't open any more .. I need to type in the URI for my music share ... once I add that, the node can be opened so that I can see the list of my other shares.

[UPDATE re your failure to replicate] I have no trouble replicating ... in all my tests I have been doing something else, so MM5 sits minimised for a while ... ie. I can see that it has completed because its icon on the Windows Task Bar is no longer animated ... maybe you should wait a while before reactivating the window ... ie. maybe the issue comes from some MM5 watchdog timer, like this

The Task manager shows that MM5 has 3 processes running.

One other thing; I have dual screens ... setup in Extend Desktop mode ... I run MM5 on the "main" display, ie. the one with the Windows Task Bar

This is still happening with 2201.
I was syncing my GPM library. MM5 was minimised. This time I can see just the edge of the end-of-scan dbox.

Here is the same bug, this time with a GPM Sync. ... [UPDATE] ... by "same bug", I am nor referring to my post above, about the recurring problem of dboxes being loaded almost off-screen ... I am referring to the freeze situation where the dbox is fully off-screen AFAICS ... ie. need to abend MM5 with the Task Manager.

I may have mislead you by saying the window is minimised. In this test it was just lower in the z-order ... ie. it was under the Chrome browser, which was being displayed in fullscreen mode.

Steps:

• open MM5 ... it opens on my left hand screen

• drag it to my main screen ... rhs screen in the Windows "main screen"

• MM5 is still in the state that it opened (ie. not maximised ... not minimised)

• start GPM library sync

• while waiting, open Chrome Browser, maximised to the rhs window

I am surprised that you can't replicate ... the problem is 100% repeatable for me.

I took another debug log, and PM's link to Ludek

I looked at the log

• I see the sync finishing, and it looks like it is building|displaying the end of scan dbox

• then it has several of these lines ... this is expected?
