Improved Sync Filters

Post by MonkeyMadness »

I love being able to use my filters when syncing to my ipod. But as the feature is currently implemented, it's not nearly as useful as it could be.

If I've chose to sync my music using one of my filters (in the Configuration dialog > Auto-sync list tab > Music tab), I should be able to select the All Music checkbox and it should sync all the music in my filter. But it doesn't do that. Instead it syncs all music in your entire library. That makes no sense.

Additionally, the ability to choose tracks in this same window is severely crippled. First of all, you are limited to only 3 choices of Location, Artist & Album Artist, and Album. Would be nice to select by Genre, for example, and others. But the real problem here is that there is no easy way to make multiple selections. You must check each checkbox individually. There is no way to check them all or uncheck them all. As I said, you can check the All Music checkbox, but that actually selects all music in your entire library. Bad Monkey! And you can select multiple checkboxes (using Ctrl-click and Shift-click), but then you can't do anything with them. You should be able to right-click at that point, which would bring up a context menu allowing to check or uncheck the selected items.

I've been told you can use playlists to do your syncing. But what good is it to tease us with filters for syncing (a much cleaner way of syncing), and then make them pretty much unusable?

Would love to hear feedback on this. Maybe I'm missing something.

Heartily agree with all that you said here. MM's sync functionality is great as far as it goes, but it seems to me a lot of the recent development effort has been to support all the new Apple devices instead of expanding the feature set. I for one don't have any Apple kit, nor can I keep replacing the devices I have every time a new one is launched. I'm more interested in getting more use out of the relatively dumb devices I already have.

Zombie thread revival!

Any update on this? I need to split my library across 2 partitions on an HDD, so I want to select (for example) artists A to M on partition 1, and artists N to Z on partition 2. As far as I can see, there's no way of being able to "shift-select" multiple artists in the auto-sync pane. Surely I don't have to click every artist, one by one?

Unfortunately it is limitation to how sync devices are reported to MMW.

Wow, so I really do have to tick the boxes one by one. Time to look for a new music management program :(

Actually you can condition on letter:

Code: Select all

$If(<Album Artist:1>>N,M:\,N:\)<Album Artist>\etc.
