In Album Art View and Album Art Detail View each group of albums has a header with an expand-button, a subcategory (initial, year, genre, etc) and the number of albums in that subcategory. Those groups vary with the choosen sorting criterion.
The grouping is not very consequent. Artist and album are grouped by letter. Sorting by count (who sorts his albums by the number of tracks????) results in groups of 10, 20, ... more than 50 tracks. Sorting by length (also very practical!) gives groups of 10, 20 etc minutes. But sorting by year makes a group of every single year.
In Album Art View this has undesirable effects: if I want to see my Beatles sorted by year (a useful and common sorting) the albums are spread over 5 pages. And there is no way to get them together...... (I could put them in a playlist "Beatles by year", but that goes too far)
I should like a optional grouping. More or less the way it works in Windows Explorer: "Arrange Icons by Name, type etc.", and separately "Show in groups" (or not!). A checkbox in the View menu can do....

Re: Optional grouping in tracks listing
Because I am a Japanese, there is a lot of Japanese music to my library.
I want to turn off a function to group by the first letter in album art view at least.
There are a lot of letters more than several thousand in Japanese.
Anyone may imagine what kind of result this function brings easily.

Now it's optional. Right click columns > Choose columns > Columns tab > [] Enable grouping (album art views), as of build 4.0.0.1346

Great! But when can we expect 4.0.0? I have 3.2.5 and the MM homepage still offers 3.2.4.nohitter151 wrote:Now it's optional. Right click columns > Choose columns > Columns tab > [] Enable grouping (album art views), as of build 4.0.0.1346

Re: Optional grouping in tracks listing [#6567]
I installed MM 4 beta, and I like the new developments.
In the new Art View I can present all albums of an artist or group all together in chronological order (like every discography!) without interruption of labels or subtitles. That is what I meant. Fine!
Still a few comments:
The 'right click on Columns' is not possible in Art View Mode; only in Art with details and Details
Checking or unchecking the Grouping option makes no difference: the covers form allways a solid block.
The choosen sequence is not applied in Art Browser View: that is in alphabetic order.

Re: Optional grouping in tracks listing [#6567]
Now I'm running 4.0.1.1.1461 and now this procedure does'nt work at all. The option 'Choose Columns' appears in all modes except Art View, but it is inactiv (greyed). So no Columns Tab, and no Diseble/Disable Grouping.nohitter151 wrote:Now it's optional. Re: Optional grouping in tracks listing [#6567]
In the Art view you can't choose columns and this was done by design by the developers. The option for Grouping is in the Collection settings.

So how much is MediaMonkey 4 different from MediaMonkey 4 beta now?
