Album-Cover column in Column Browser

Post by murki »

thanks for the answer (see below). And also thank you for moving this to the wishlist-forum. I will transform the topic from a question into a wish :D

I would like to have a column in my column browser that sorts my music by albums. But instead of showing the tag "album-name" it should show the covers of each album.
I had something like that in Winamp.
Actually I think this would be a very good addition to MediaMonkey. Artwork is also supported in other views. Integrating it also into the column browser would be consequent, I think.
I also think this should be possible, even if it is a "filter for filelisting", as you said, Lowlander. IN the end it is only a matter of display: sort by albums. just don't show the album-name but the attached file (i.e. the cover).
Also the Winamp MediaLibrary shows that it is possible. MediaMonkey is in many ways better than Winamp. Why not in this point?

Any thoughts about this?

Column Browser doesn't support Artwork and only supports limited columns as it is a filter for the Filelisting.

I know it doesn't support Artwork at the moment. That is why I posted this on the wishlist ;)
I also understand that it is a filter for the filelisting. However since the album covers are also integrated in the files via ID3-tags it should be technically possible to have an album-cover-column instead of an album-column.
Also both, winamp and itunes, prove that this is possible. And it looks way better and helps to find the album you are looking for (as you see the artwork and don't have to read).
In my opinion this is the only point where mediamonkey ranks behind winamp (and even behind itunes).

Here is an illustration of what I mean (to make sure I made myself clear, I know my english is not that good...)
This is just an example. I only added pictures of random covers.
So instead of clicking on the name of the album you would click on the cover of the album to select certain music.

Although I would love to see a 'Cover' column added to the details grid I would prefer that it just have either a Yes/No (whether there is artwork), Number (how many artwork(s)) or size(like the addon but one that works all the time). It would be nice if hovering over the cell would display the artwork. BUT adding the image to the grid would reduce the effectiveness of the grid. Unless you make a thumbnail so small it fits in a column. Wouldn't be very pretty.
