Video-Playing with 5.1 sound

Post by passat1943 »

Sorry my bad English.
I'm an old MM-user and since last year I use MM for playing my Music-Videos too. Unfortunately MM is only able to play in Stereo-Sound.
Why isn't it possible to realise 5.1 Sound like VLC-Player or Windows-Media-Player ?

Hallo Lowlander,

Thanks for your tip, but I realized it already.
5.1 Sound works fine with music-files (mp3 etc), but it doesn't with video-files (for example mp4).
I think it is a problem of the built-in mediamonkey videoplayer. The outplug-ins of mediamonkey don't work correctly while video-playing.
In the same mp4-file, played wit vlc-player e.g. 5.1 sound is available.

My problem is solved.
Yesterday I found out that mp4-videos containing mp3-audio-codec were played correctly in 5.1 but all mp4-videos containing aac-audio codec were only played in stereo.
So it must be a problem of the MediaMonkey-Codec-Pack I bought some month ago. I uninstalled it and now 5.1 Sound is available and very good in all videos I play. The start of the videos from Mediamonkey is a little delayed, but this is no great problem for me. I think MediaMonkey now use the VLC-player and that is the reason for the delay.

For the future I hope, MediaMonkey Videoplayer will do it like VLC.

Which version of the MediaMonkey Codec Pack were you using? It seems that 5.1 should be supported (http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=4423).

Hallo Lowlander,

I bought the MM Video Codec Pack 2.0.2.17 from your company on Oct. 11th this year and it shoud be the latest.

So I'm a little confused, but this Codec Pack didn't work with 5.1 when the audio codec in the mp4-file is aac

I've added it to the bug tracker so the developers can look into it: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=11561

Hi passat1943,
I am not able to reproduce the problem, for me, MP4 with sound in AAC 5.1 plays fine as 5.1, using splitter and decoder from Codec Pack 2.0.2.17. Which version of MM do you use? Could you generate me debug log (from playing file with AAC 5.1 as stereo), please? Thanks.

Hallo MiPi

Here is a little missunderstanding and I try to explain it in my bad english - excuse this.
All my mp4-files have no 5.1 aac, most of them are only in stereo, like all my mp3-files.
My system is a Desktop-PC with a Realtek High Definition Audio chip with 5.1 output and a Typhoon 5.1 Amplifier Speaker System.
So all my files are played back with pseudo-5.1 sound (not really but over all speakers). This works fine with all mp3-files in mediamonkey also in windows media player.
And it works also with mp4 music-videos in windows media player and VLC-Player, but it works not in mediamonkey videoplayer ( with codec pack 2.0.2.17)
After deinstallation of the mediamonkey codec-pack the playback in mediamonkey in 5.1 works correct, but the start of the videos are delayed, because mediamonkey use VLC-player.
I hope, you have understand my problem and it would be nice, if all my mp4 music-videos would be played in 5.1 sound over mediamonkey like the mp3-files do.
Thanks for your understanding.

Oh, I see.
I've made some testing and I have different results. For me, 5.1 sound is related to the video file, not codec pack. Some MP4 files with stereo AAC sound play in 5.1, some not, I have no idea why. And it is the same in MM4 and in other players. I am not sure, what we can do with it, it seems to be hw and audio driver dependent :-/
Anyway, could you send me debug log? Maybe I could discover something from it.

Hallo MiPi

as I told You all my mp4-videofiles are only played in stereo (only two speakers) by mediamaonkey and all (no exception !) are played in 5.1 (5 speakers plus woover) by VLC and also windows media player.
In earlier versions of mediamonkey I had the same problem with mp3-files. But in newer versions of mediamonkey (I don't know exactly when) you published modified output plugins and from than mp3-files were correctly played in 5.1 on my system.

Now I have generated a log-file as You wished and I have done some screen-shots from my realtek speaker configuration. In this You see, that in the Realtek HD Audio Manager surround sound can be chosen, so that all stereo files will played in surround sound. That works will all players except mediamonkey.Mediamonkey only plays the mp3-files correctly in 5.1. But when I uninstall the mediamonkey codec pack it works correctly in mediamonkey with mp4-files too with the disadvantage of a delay before playing videos. In my mediamonkey database I have arround 7500 mp3-files and 3000 mp4-files (all musicvideos). I love my mediamonkey and would be glad, if I can play my musicvideos also comfortable in 5.1 in mediamonkey.

Now I have the problem, that I don't see the possibility to make an attachment here (my log-file.zip). Can You tell me how ? I'm new here.

Zip all files and attach to a support ticket: http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... &_a=submit If larger than 2MB use a file sharing service like http://www.filedropper.com or http://www.dropbox.com and add link to file in your support ticket (also link back to this post for reference).

This issue was resolved by disabling the k-lite ffdshow filter. Apparently some setting within was forcing 2 channels.
