Reserving or limiting usb sync space on a device

Any ideas about how to improve MediaMonkey for Windows 4? Let us know!

Reserving or limiting usb sync space on a device

Post by Teknojnky »

Is there any way to make MM use a subset or reserve a certain amount of free space when "synchronize random subset up to device capacity"?

I had a friend use my mp3 player to xfer some files recently, and it had no room left on the drive, so I had to go manually find and delete some files.

I'd prefer to just reserve 10 to 100 megs of the drive space or be able to manually set the capacity.

I suppose I could set up a single playlist with a max size, but right now I am using several play lists with the 'synchronize higher-rated tracks more often' option enabled so I get a random subset every time.

Synch to capacity

You could instead use a playlist and limit the playlist size to x MB, but that's probably not what you're looking for...

Not really, thats what I considered, but kinda limits to one play list and not very intuitive or user friendly.

I like how MM can use a random subset of higher rated files with a larger collection and how you can have many different play lists as part of the sync.

That would be really useful for those who put music on data usb sticks/devices.

I second the request. It sucks when I have no disk space on my iPhone.

I would also like to have this feature. The "random subset" feature is great, but having it fill the device to capacity makes it unusable for the iPhone or iPod Touch (and I imagine that it would be a problem for other multi-purpose devices as well).

Either "Synchronize random subset up to x MB", or "Synchronize random subset and leave x MB of space on the device" would be adequate solutions.

Hi

Either one or both these solutions would be greatly appreciated!
Add to that the possibility to force some playlists to be sync'd and it would be perfect.
I'm a musician and I'd love to have always specific playlists (music I make), some random tunes from My library AND free space on the iPhone.

PS : Great piece of software anyway!

Blatent BUMP! 8)

This is an absolute must for me on an iPhone. I'm considering... using... omg i can't bring myself to say it... iTunes :blurgh:! As that always seems to leave at least 1Gb free so I can take pictures on it, update apps, you name it!

I'm loving Media Monkey, even a paying user! Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeeeeee MediaMonkey... Make my life easier, again... :D

A workaround for this issue is to use an AutoPlaylist and limit it's size. It doesn't solve the underlying problem, but it can work in certain circumstances.

Yes, this is a much-needed feature:

I'm trying to use the Autoplaylist as a workaround, but I use MediaMonkey because I have a RAID Array full of FLAC files and I use MediaMonkey to transcode them to mp4 for my iPhone. Since the resultant filesize is not known, I'm having to go by limiting the minutes to 13500, which doesn't take into account differing bitrates! Considering the advanced nature of the configurability of the auto-sync, this surely can't be too hard to implement?

From what I see this being planned as an option tied to the "Sync Random subset ..." option but I think that it's application should be wider than this. Further, it should be applied to the other plugins too.

Personally I never use the random sync option but the amount of music that I sync varies due to numbers of podcasts. Sometimes it exceeds the capacity of my iPhone and causes some 'odd' behaviour due to no remaining disk space. Being able to set a reserved space would be a good solution.

It also doesn't work when syncing playlists.
