1 On the sync toolbar button, with the second device (a SUBST drive) ticked (http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4309/before.gif), click Configure Device
2 Click OK
Expected: device tick unchanged
Observed: device tick moved to first device (portable player on Explorer node)! http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/5819/after.gif
EDIT:
1 screenshots added 2009-04-18.
2 Note: the SUBST device ^MM TDJ uses d_USBMass1.dll ; the portable player ZEN C uses d_WMDM.dll

Chris,
I've never observed this and can't reproduce with build 1232. Can you give any additional info to reproduce?
Thanks.

I perhaps could if I knew how to get this device order. Any ideas?
The problem occurs when the order of the devices is 1 portable device 2 SUBST drive , but this is rare - normally the order is reversed, whereupon the problem is not present. And I cannot see what determines MM's choice of order.

Chris,
Are you using specific plugins for these 'devices'? I've tried iPod and wmdm plugins and still can't reproduce this...
edit: Also, I wonder does the problem occur only if you click configure device right after it's plugged in? (perhaps MM hasn't completed recognizing the device?)

Yes: the SUBST device ^MM TDJ uses d_USBMass1.dll , the portable player ZEN C uses d_WMDM.dll .

No.

The device I am configging is the SUBST drive which was apparently recognised long before - upon launch. Certainly the portable device was more recently recognised, but it seems to me the issue is the irregular ordering, and certainly that does not disappear any time soon after recognition.
Perhaps we should concentrate on finding the cause of the irregular ordering. In case it is relevent, I also have a second instance of MM running as a different user. But that is insufficient to cause it every time. If from the source you can suggest a vulnerability, I'll try it.
