On tracks having Artist equal to Album Artist, when I set Artist to blank, MM blanks Album Artist too.
This happens in the tracklist and in Properties.
This happens even if there are other tracks in the album i.e. having the same Album and Album Artist. Meaning the affected tracks gets split out into a separate album on the (EDIT:) Album node.

Persists in 1304.
Was 1170.

Thanks... and I wonder if there's some further dependency (because though I don't frequently blank Artist, I do frequently adjust it and I don't recall that I ever saw your replication problem, until you pointed it out.)
If there is, then I'd like to know what it is, so to use it as a workaround! ;)

Re: 1170 Blanking Artist can lose Album Artist value! [6906]
I would fully expect this to happen. It's simply a trade-off decision.
Some would want the Album Artist not be changed when changing Artist (only done on first Artist change on Album) and not to have to adjust the Album Artist back to old value. Others however wouldn't want to have to update the Album Artist each time they correct the Artist. Either solution would have people complaining about the chosen implementation. For consistency I think emptying the Artist field should be treated the same as changing the Artist field value.
I myself experience both scenarios and if I have to choose I choose the current implementation.

The reported behaviour fails to meet either preference well. "the affected tracks gets split out into a separate album on the Artist node", note.
EDIT: Oops, I think that was a reporting error, and should have said "gets split out into a separate album on the Album node". Certainly that's the behaviour of the current (1304), so I have amended the report.
Thanks LL.

Which is the exact same behavior you get when you change the Artist to a different value.
