1198: More Podcast problems BUG#5013

Post by Owyn »

Due to previously reported problems with Auto-Update / Update All I have been individually updating subscriptions as I think about it.

This AM the downloaded episodes are mislinked in the database.

The episode info shows some random pre-existing track in the database, an auto playlist with selection genre:podcast does not include the new tracks, but, I can find them by using Locations in my default podcast folder and sorting by Date descending.

Note that this is in 1198 and pre-dates the TIEHTTP update in 1199.

1201: Just tried to Update some of my daily news podcasts. Everything looked fine until downloads complete. Tags for new tracks look fine.

The new episodes are grayed out in Podcast nodes, can not be found by search, but do show up in Locations and My Computer nodes.
Bizarre.

Time for a Mantis report, once I can figure out how to word it.

The search issues appear to be related to genre.

If I use Advanced Search artist:npr album:story I can find the unremoved, played and unplayed, NPR news episodes.
Checking via Properties, everything looks fine.
But, If I add genre:podcast to the search nothing shows up.

Search of e.g. artist:npr genre:podcast shows my pre-1998 episodes for e.g. NPR All Songs Considered.

I am saving debug logs each time I run Update Podcast now.
Of course, it has not broken since I started catching logs. Must be some sort of rule about that. :o

----------
Hmmmm. Might be part of the info on the last test. Need to take a close look at the log and the database.

Owyn, I don't quite understand the problems you have, you have written to the mantis issue that "Restarting MM3 may be a temporary fix to the problem". Is it a problem immediately after episode download process? So after restarting the episodes re-appear under podcast node?? Maybe a screenshots would be useful.

What I meant was that when I noticed the problem occuring on several downloads, I exited MM3, restarted and ran some more Update Podcast. The downloads after restart seemed Ok.

Will post detailed examples later today.

This is a directory listing of my Podcasts folder for the NPR- Story of the Day Podcast
http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast.php?id=1 ... 8ffa0d5d53

Code: Select all

Directory of C:\DATA\Podcasts\NPR- Story of the Day Podcast

09/12/2008 07:31 PM <DIR> .
09/12/2008 07:31 PM <DIR> ..

               4 File(s) 15,628,288 bytes
               2 Dir(s) 63,324,614,656 bytes free
None of the above tracks are:
- Shown as downloaded in the Podcast node for this subscription
- Findable when Search includes genre:podcast
- Were Grayed out Episodes after download completed

All of the above tracks:
- Appear to be properly tagged
- Can be played from Location node

In addition the Podcast Episode info for the Dec 5 episode has the track id for the song Artie Shaw - Nightmare in my Music folders. I did have that episode downloaded but manually removed it from the Library folder. Removing the track did not change the episode info.

Hope this clarifies the problem.

Can get dumps of the appropriate table rows if needed as well.

Another inconsistency.

FTS(npr story genre:podcast) works, but Advanced Search(AnyField:npr story Genre:podcast) fails.

PodcastEpisodes.IDTrack and Downloaded both look correct for grayed out episodes.

Thank you.

I tried the NPR- Story of the Day Podcast and all seem to work fine for me, so I suposse you experience these problems on podcasts subscribed by using MM 3.0, if you subscribe them via MM 3.1 they works, isn't it?

You written that the downloaded episodes were Grayed out Episodes after download completed, so if I understand correctly, they were added to the feed as duplicates or they just didn't get black (i.e. associated with the downloaded track).

I have two new subscriptions since installing 1998. Both from testing the beta.
NPR World Cafe and
The Onion News.

Just tested them plus some of my pre-1998 subscriptions.

Initially it looked like everything was working this time.

However, when I went to an Auto-Playlist I have for new podcasts I could not find the new episodes. Went back to the subscription nodes and, SOB, the previously black(i.e. downloaded) episodes were back to gray and the properties show a URL instead of local file path.

As usual the tracks are visible in Location node (I sort by date descending to quickly check status).

I took a look at Properties->Classification for several tracks. The Auto-Playlist is not showing up in the grayed out tracks. It does for the ones that are correct.

Don't know if it has any impact, but, I have tested Compact Database twice since installing 1998.

Just realized that the PodcastEpisodes.IDTrack of (many?/all?) of the problem episodes are junk.

Ran

Code: Select all

SELECT * FROM PodcastEpisodes WHERE IDTrack > (SELECT MAX(ID) FROM Songs)
Found 24 rows.

Owyn, that is really strange. I have made a code review and I don't see any clue. Could you send me your DB, please? Hopefully I will be able to reproduce this strange issue then. You can use e.g. www.yousendit.com

Thank you for your debugging ;-)
